Costa Rica | The Costa Rica Ambassador Program : A New Initiative to Strengthen Meeting Tourism in the Country

Costa Rica is actively working to promote its tourism sector through various initiatives, including promotional tours, participation in international events, focusing on sustainable regenerative tourism practises, campaigns, diversification of its destinations, the country aims to attract more tourists, foster a more equitable distribution of tourism benefits, enhancing its global reputation as a leading tourist destination in the region and recently launched the Costa Rica Ambassador Program,  a new strategy to strengthen meeting tourism in the country.

The program is an initiative of the Costa Rican Tourism Board and the Costa Rica Convention Bureau that seeks to provide local leaders with a set of activities, tools and services so they can take part in upcoming events at the national, regional and international levels that may be held in the country.

The aim is for these leaders to support the destination and lead the process of increasing the number of meetings held in the Central American country, an initiative that is part of the framework of the ICT's new strategic plan.

In the context of the tourism sector, and meeting tourism in particular "ambassadors" must be highly knowledgeable, prestigious and influential in their field so that they can act as representative and supporters of Costa Rica as a prominent destination, and the country is developing this special workforce to enhance its MICE tourism sector.

The Costa Rica Ambassador Program has also been developed to lead outreach to several sectors, including NGOs and the government, corporate, athletic and academic sectors, as well as social, military, educational, and SMERF, fraternal organizations. 

The program seeks to involve people with high - level contacts in these fields, who can initiate the lead – gathering process.

This strategy is based on the presence of Costa Rica professionals with local and international prestige, strongly committed to the actions of the ICT's goal of attracting meeting tourism, the country's positioning as a leading destination with first – class infrastructure, and the construction of the Convention Center, which allows the country to compete for large – scale events. 


Nowadays Costa Rica represents an excellent alternative for planning meetings and incentive travel offering a wide array of attractions for visitors and a tourist sector that is renowned for or its creativity and professionalism and this program was carefully designed to strengthen furthermore a tourism segment in continuous expansion in the country.
