Gōra Kadan Fuji Retreat has officially opened its doors on 20th July 2025, located in the foothills of Mount Fuji, the tallest peak of the country standing at 3.776 metre, declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an active volcano situated about 100 kilometres southwest of the capital of the country, Tokyo, commonly called “Fuji - san”, considered one of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains.
The Gōra Kadan Fuji is the second property under the ra Kadan brand, following the original Gōra Kadan Hakone, which opened in 1948.
This calm retreat is located in Gōra, a hillside hot spring resort easily reached on the Hakone Tozane Railway or by cable in the Ashigarashino District, located in an area known for its pristine nature, springs, which are heated by volcanic rocks, polished ryokan inns and home to Western -style Gōra Park.
The property designed by Ogitsu Architects Studio, an acclaimed architecture and design firm based in Takanawa, Tokyo, with interiors by Aoyama Nomura Design, a high - ender interior and product design firm established in Tokyo in 2006 by Ryu Kosaka, aims to intergrate traditional Japanese design elements with contemporary architectural details, emphasizing natural surroundings, with an inspiration inrtended to highlight views of the emblematic Mount Fuji.
Gōra Kadan features hot spring baths with water sourced from the the surrounding mountains ad provides 42 accommodations, including 39 suites and three villas, designed in a minimalist style, each incorporating traditional design features such as tatami floors and shji screens.
Several suites have private outdoor onsen baths, while other provide bathtubs with drawn from from beneath Mount Fuji and some villas offer additional amenities, including a private pool, sauna, and outdoor bath.
The property includes a swimming pool with views of Mount Fuji, and continues the tradition of incorporating onsen hot springs into its offerings. Public baths are available, offering stunning views of the the emblematic mountain and surrounding scenery.
In addition to the hot springs, the establishment features a spa offering various treatments and a 18 - metre infinity - edge pool. Later in the year, a 36 - hole golf course is set to open, including a clubhouse, lounge, and dining facilities, all designed to offer a unique stay at the foothills of the iconic Mount Fuji one of the great attractions of Japan.
