The Association of Hotels amd Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) highlights shopping tourism in the capital of the country, Santo Domingo as a growth pillar to diversify the nation’s travel sector. By highlighting Santo Domingo’s modern infrastructure and historic appeal, the organisation emphasises its potential to attract upscale and diverse spending visitors.
The Vice President of the association Aguie Lendor stated that the growing number of projects underway in the city creates an opportunity to develop and strengthen shopping tourism in the Dominican capital.
The executive said that the city has the condition to position itself as a very competitive shopping destination in the Caribbean, emphasising the need to continue advancing initiatives that support this segment of the tourism industry.
Asonahores Vice President noted that one of the main challenges is the implementation of tax - free tourism, stressing the importance of securing approved from the relevant authorities to make the strategy visible and such a measures would help to attract more visitors and encourage the city to emerge as a regional shopping hub.
