Quito – Ecuador | Positioned as a Smart Tourist Destination in South America

 

Quito, Ecuador's capital located above the Guayallamba drainage basin on the slopes of the active Pichincha stravolcano, sits high in the Andean foothills at an altitude of 2.850 metres, centre constructed on the foundations of an ancient Incan city boasting a rich, historic and cultural aspires to become the first Smart Tourist Destination of South America,  integrating advanced technology, promoting sustainability and guaranteeing inclusion, improving the city's global tourism competitiveness.

The initiative positions the capital of Ecuador and of the province of Pichincha to take advantage of avant - garde technology, promoting sustainable development and ensure the inclusion of all visitors and residents.

The Mayor of Quito Pabel Muñoz and the Manager of the Public Tourism Company of the city Etzon Romo in order to promote this transformation in a form of official partnership and cooperation signed a historic agreement with the Secretary of State for Tourism of Spain, Rosario Sánchez Grau.

This alliance underscores the city's commitment to improving its tourism competitiveness while adopting international best practices and Quito Tourism as responsible for essential actions is committed to enhancing the tourism experience by integrating advanced technology and sustainability into its tourism framework.

In addition, the initiative will also foster meaningful interactions between tourists and residents, a key step to create a vibrant and inclusive environment in the city.

By prioritizing these efforts, the capital of Ecuador aims to improve the quality of life for its residents and at the same time also offering unique and memorable experiences to visitors.

This project involves an in - depth analysis of Quito's tourism framework, with actionable recommendations and a monitoring system that ensures continuous improvement and adopting this model the city aligns with global best practices recognized by entities such as UNWTO, the World Tourism Organization, OECD, the Organisation for Economic Co - operation and Development and IDB, the Inter – American Development Bank.
