Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic in the last edition of Date, the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, through the Santo Domingo Hotel Association and the Santo Domingo Cluster presented various advances linked to a revitalization process includes various projects to reinforce the image and atttractiveness of the city focusing on the enhancement of emblematic historical spaces and also the development of new infrastructure and hotels.
Some of these projects are the opening of the Taino ad Cathedral museums, the renovation of the Ozama Fortress, the installation of new hotels and the construction of a new airport terminal in Las Americas, by Aerodom with an investment of $250 million.
The President of the Santo Domingo Hotel Association, Yudith Garcia and the President of the Tourism Cluster Mónika Infante Henríquez explained that the Taino Museum and the Cathedral Museum will be opened as new cultural attractions, providing audiovisual technology facilities and instant translation into various basic languages such as English, French, Italian and others, a move to enhance the visitor experience.
It is observed that in Ciudad Colonial the Taino Casa del Cordón Museum, of the Banco Popular Dominicano, has been operating since December 2024, so there will be two educational institutions of this type.
The iconic Ozama Fortress, which started its development in 1502 and was completed in 1508 built by the Spanish at the entrance to the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, which takes its name from its location near the Ozama River is also part of the revitalization process.
This historical monument in which they have been imprisoned since Christopher Columbus, part of the Secret Society Los Trinitarios anti – Trujllo fighters, ad which was the headquarters of the infamous White Helmets police squad in 1965, will be completely renovated in its spaces and equipped with audiosvisual technology that will allow visitors to enjoy immersive experiences.
The President of the Santo Domingo Hotel Association, and the President of the Tourism Cluster also announced as cultural project the launch of the faith tourist tour "The Cradle of the Gospel in America" through 17 churches, hermitages and religious places in the iconic Colonial Zone. This tour is inspired by the Route of Faith that is offered at Easter, but which will now be an offer of visits all year round.
Other projects include the development of new hotels in Ciudad Colonial, some of them of international brands, which expands and diversifies the accommodation capacity in one of the most attractive and captivanting areas of Santo Domingo.
This year AERODOM will begin construction of a new terminal at Las Americas International Airport, José Francisco Gómez, with an investment of $250 million, which will result in strengthening Santo Domingo's capacity to receive visitors.
The new terminal will be able to receive 4 million passengers annually and is expected to be completed in December 2028, with a sustainable design adopted by the company that owns AERODOM, VINCI Airports, the largest private airport operator in the world.
Finally the two directors of the Hotel Association and the Cluster announced that this year the fifth edition of the SDQ MICE event will be held from 10th to 12th September, consolidated as one of the main business meeting in the sector, including the so - called PCMA Customer Advisory Summit, an initiative of international scope will promote the development of MICE tourism in the capital and throughout the entire coutry.
