The beautiful Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias, located on the Caribbean coast of the South American country well known for its magnificent exotic beaches, immense historical heritage such as the walled old town, the Palacio de San Felipe, the Palacio de la Inquisición and the Torre del Reloj will host the next United Nations Executive Council for Tourism UNWTO in October.
In its 121st session held between 10 and 11 June in Barcelona, UNWTO chose Cartagena de Indias by a large majority.
Cartagena de Indias defeated the Bahamas in the final vote, whose leadership aspired to be the home of the renowned and prestigious tourist space.
The mayor of the city announced the victory and declared that this prestigious event will elevate Cartagena de Indias as a global epicenter for tourism and sustainable development.
The Colombian city has had the support of the Ministries of Industry, Commerce, Tourism, the Fontur National Tourism Fund and Procolombia as well as the entire Corralito de Piedra sector.
