Dominica | Tourist Arrivals Growth of 19% with More Flights and Luxury Resorts

Dominica, splendid island country part of the Windwards Islands chain in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea halfway between the islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe, highlighted by its pristine beaches, natural hot springs and tropical rainforest considered the true natural island of the Caribbean, a very popular destination for lovers of adventure and tranquility is experiencing a significant tourist renaissance.

The first signs of this growth date back to a decade ago with the opening of Secret Bay in Portsmouth, an award winning boutique resort with ten sustainable luxury villas, the first luxury resort on the island.

The offer then expanded with what is now a gem of IHG Hotels & Resorts, namely the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort and Spa situated on the protected lands of Cabrits National Park, a peaceful, hidden away five – star luxury resort highlighted by a contemporary Caribbean clean - lined design surrounded by the natural beauty and ecosystem of stunning,  volcanic Dominica.

Over the last few years, the profile of the traveler has also changed a lot, which is much more varied, linked to a milestone with the arrival of the first flight operated at the end of 2021 by American Airlines, covering the route between Miami, very important hub of the United States in Florida, and Dominica.

After a few years of stagnant growth, at the recent annual conference of the CTO, the Caribbean Tourism Organization held in the Cayman Islands, data of great relevance for Dominica were collected with a 19% growth in tourist arrivals.

As an additional note, the island of Dominica is in the early stages of construction of a new international airport with the aim to have a direct flight service to one of the most important US hubs: New York.
