Health measures such as temperature checks and mask - wearing are also being implemented in several places, and at the moment the capital Pyongyang remains closed to all tourists except Russians.

Among the first groups entering in the country were managed by operators like YPT, Young Pioneer Tours, adventure travel company established in 2008 with its head office in Shenzen, China specialising in budget tours to North Korea and Koryo Tours, an independent British tour operator founded in 1993 with office in Beijing, China, specializing in group and private tourism to the Asiatic country.

These operators have begun running tours for small groups of about 15 visitors with itineraries that during the trip include stops at a foreign language school, a local brewery, a taekwondo academy and the border area where North Korea, China and Russia meet corresponding to the aforementioned Special Economic Zone of Rason.

Currently no more than a dozen tour operators have been allowed to travel within the country, with group sizes ranging from 10 to 15 people and only South Koreans are banned from entering. The U.S. and Malaysian governments have banned their citizens from travelling to North Korea, while Singapore has issued a warning to avoid non - essential travel to the country.

In the Asiatic country the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited between 2 and 5 p.m. and on important days linked to the Buddhist religion following a decree issued in 1972 aimed to fight the habit of public officials to drink for prolonged periods at lunchtime.

The Prime Minister of Thailand, Paetongtarn Shinawatra has ordered a review of a rule banning the sale of alcoholic beverage in the afternoons that has been welcomed by restaurant operators as well as other business associations, declaring that 2025 is the Thailand tourism year so it is essential to review these regulations

The Thailand Tourism Year, the Prime Minister was referring to is the the campaing "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sport Year 2025" , revealed during the 21st annual joint meeting of the ATTA, the Association of Thai Travel Agents and THA, the Thai Hotel Association that will feature year - round tourism festivals, high profile sporting tournaments, and exclusive travel privileges with the aim to attract 40.0 million international visitors and generate 2.8 trillion baht, about $83.200 million in tourism revenue this year, according to local media.

The Prime Minister added that various sectors of the economy have filed numerous complaints against legal restrictions on the sale of alcoholic beverages in the afternoon, which are seen as hampering economic growth.

The aforementioned regulations were later consolidated into the 2008 Alcohol Control Act as reported by Khaosod, Thai daily newspaper with national circulation and since then, the Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to look into the matter, and the Deputy Primer Anutin Chamvirakul said that the Interior Ministry's Provincial Administration Department will oversee the overall framework,  particularly with regard to restriction laws.

The President of the Restaurant Operators Club, Sorathep Rojpojnarat, is among those who welcomed the Prime Minster consideration of long - standing calls from commercial operators to lift restrictions.

The lifting of the ban could contribute to economic growth, considering that the tourists tend to avoid restaurants between 2 and 5 p,m. because they are not allowed to buy alcohol with their meals and the Presidenrt of the Restaurant Operators Club hoped that the alcohol ban could be lifted before April this year, in time for the upcoming popular Songkran celebrations, the famed Water Festival which takes place from 13th to 15th April every year.
