Moskow, Russia | Adding Another 100 Electric Buses on the City’ s Routes, Accelerating the Transition to Green Urban Transport

Moskow, Russia’s capital and largest city continues to accelerate the transition to green urban transport adding another 100 electric buses on the city’s routes replacing diesel buses.

These measures are implemented to reduce emissions and improve passenger comfort as reported by the press service of the state - owned unitary company Mosgortrans that operates a network of over 700 bus routes in Moskow, including daytime, night, and express services, transporting around 3 million passengers daily.

The company will receive these 100 additional electric buses of the LiAZ – 6274 model, produced domestically by the Likinski Bus Plant (LiAZ), part of the Gaz Group.

This large - class low - floor electric bus is designed for high - density urban transit with a 90 - passenger capacity and a ~200 km range. The vehicle features a 180 kW electric motor, lithium - ion accumulators, and supports ultra - fast charging via a semi - pantograph.

Tests are underway on an ultra – fast charging station for electric buses. This station, equipped with an inverted pantograph, uses innovative contact charging technology. Unlike traditional methods, the pantograph (current receiver) is not located on the electric bus, but on the charging station structure, while contact rails are installed on the roof of the vehicle.

These new generation buses offer more comfortable conditions for passengers, thanks to its spacious interiors, smooth ride and low noise level and they are linked to a serial production started in 2018, primarily used in Moskow, with additional units in cities like Krasnoyarsk, Tyumen, and Vladivostok.

Currently, more than 470 LiAZ electric buses are already circulating in the capital of the Russian Federation and these new 100 units will be assigned to the Chertanovo operational depot in the area of Kavkazsky Boulevard within the Tsaritsyno District where is situated Chertanovo railway station on Paveletsky suburban railway line in the southern part of Moskow.

In addition the Russian capital will receive five electric buses with autonomous driving function enlarging its fleet and accelerating furthermore the transition to green urban transport.
