Canada | Signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Greece to Strengthen a Solid Cooperation in the Tourism Sector

Canada, through its Embassy in Greece after a meeting which took place in Athens with the Greek authorities signed a MOU, a memorandum of understanding with Greece with the aim to strengthen a solid cooperation in the tourism sector to promote tourism between the two countries.

At the meeting, Greece's Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni, and Karine Asselin, Canada's Ambassador to Greece signed this partnerhip that paves the way for further collaborations on tourism, digitalisation, travel data sharing, tourism investments, education, training and the development of new products and services.

Both nations have committed to intensifying a solid collaboration and sharing knowledge on travel and tourism to improve strategies, create opportunities to boost tourism between the two countries, promotion of good practices for climate action in tourism, knowledge sharing on the global tourism market and highlighting the importance of research.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada Department said that this agreement will boost institutional co - operation, recreational travel between the two nations, the exchange of information and data to related to travel and tourism, and the sharing of best climate action in tourism.

Italy | Investment Plans of Over €500.0 million in the Next Three Years for the Theme Parks

 For the three -year period 2025/2027 Italy is experiencing investment plans of over €500.0 for the theme parks around its territory, this is the budget envisaged for the operations of restyling and the structural enhancement of the 250 entertainment parks in the Italian Peninsula that exceeds over €500.0 equal to + 47% compared to the operations of previous years, a commitment born from a period of particular vitality in the sector. 

Among the most substantial investments is that of Merlin Enterntainments Limited, global entertainment company based in London, England, UK, which operates a number of theme parks and other visitor attractions, which recently allocated  €24.5 million for the 50th anniversary of Gardaland Resort, famous tourist complex located between the municipalities of Castelnuovo del Garda and Lazise in the province of Verona, adjacent to Lake Garda, drom which it takes its name.

A further investment plan concerns Caribe Bay, the theme park that has been awarded for 15 times as the best in Italy located in Jesolo in the province of Venice, famous for its 10.000 tons of white sand and over 2.500 palm trees resembling a Caribbean island, which planned €40.0 million of investments on a multi - year basis to renovate the space of its waterfalls.

The Spanish Group Parque Reunidos, international entertainment operator based in Madrid operates over 60 parks in about dozen countries invested €20.0 million into the field for the creation of a new themed area called “Nickelodeon Land” in Mirabilandia, a 210 - acre theme park, located in Savio, Ravenna, in Emilia Romagna region.

Leolandia, Italy’s third largest theme park, well known for its stunning with water rides, roller coasters, animals & miniature models of Italian landmarks situated in Capriate San Gervasio in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy is working on new attractions and has announced an investment plan of €20.0 million for an area of 20.000 square metres that will host 10 attractions.

Costa Edutainment, leading company in managing public and private recreational, cultural, and educational structures as well well as scientific research and development parks, headquartred in Genoa is investing €19.0 million in the famed Genoa Aquarium situated in the capital of Liguria region and Aquafan, large waterpark with many slides, pools and offering nighttime events situated in Riccione, on the Adriatic Coast in Emilia Romagna region.

According to the President of the Italian Permanent Parks Association of Confindustria, Luciano Pareschi as reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, famous financial newspaper of record owned by Confindustria, the theme parks industry is experiencing a favorable cycle with investments that exceed the forecasts and the large operators continue to drive the market and the parks are becoming real tourist destinations.

A real entertainment industry led by big players who now represent reference brands, such as Gardaland, which alone has planned an investment volume of almost €25.0 million in 2025 is a clear example and even the smallest realities show a significant propensity for renewal with new attractions and structural interventions.

All these plans are part of a significant commitment shown above all by the large operators in the sector who drive the development of these structures, pursuing the strategy of transforming these parks into real references destinations, involving the accommodation facilities of the area.

Uruguay | The Chamber of Tourism Met the New Authorities of the Ministery of Tourism for the Report Presentation “Towards the Promotion of Tourism”

Sitka, Alaska, U.S. | Residents Will Decide in a Referendum Whether to Limit Cruise Traffic

Sitka, an unified city - borough in the southeast portion of the U.S, state of Alaska near the capital Juneau, will see its residents to vote in a referendum whether to limit cruise traffic to its port.

The centre formerly known as "Novo - Arkhangelsk" New Archangel, was a Russian town until 18th Ocotber 1867 when a ceremony marked the transfer of power between the Russian and American administrations took place, following the purchase of the Alaskan territory by the United States.

According to data provided by Small Town Soul, an advocacy group promoting responsible management of tourism to restore the quality of life of the Alaskan centre, Sitka’s cruise traffic reached a high of 289.753 cruisers before the pandemic, in 2022 there was a notable increase, the number climbed to 383.000 passengers and in 2023 to 585.000.

Sitka’ s municipal clerk certified a petition for referendum from Small Town Soul four times before the last one was successful and after that, Sitka’s assembly discussed the ballot measures at a special meeting which took place on 18th March 2025.

 If the limit cruise traffic will be approved would go into effect in 2026 and also port calls would be limited to six days per week.

Switzerland | “Glacier Stewardship Programme”, Global Initiative to Preserve Glaciers Launch

Scientists from EPFL the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Lausanne, and ETH Zurich, one of the world’s leading universities in science and technology in Switzerland as well as the University of Innsbruck in Austria, launch the “Glacier Stewardship Programme”, a  new global initiative to preserve glaciers, in which more than twenty other universities and research insititute from all over the world participate.

Researchers decided to launch this global initiative to protect and preserve glaciers explaining in a statement that they store 70% of the Earth’s fresh waters, and adding that more than 200.000 glaciers around the world guarantee the supply of food and water for billion of people.

 EPFL, the École Polythechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, public research University in Lausanne, founded in 1969, one of Europe’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan science and technologies institutions, specialises in the natural sciences and engineering  announced that this is the first initiative of its kind.

 The aim of “Glacier Stewardship Programme”initiative is to develop innovative strategies to slow down the melting of glaciers locally, reduce the dangers associated with it and preserve the microbial biodiversity they contain.

Each molecule of greenhouse gas causes further melting of the ice, and EPFL researchers points out,  that reducing CO2 emissions is crucial to saving glaciers, however more needs to be done to protect ice and its biodiversity and mitigate downstream effects.

On the property's 12th floor stands the Azotea rooftop bar and Latin American restaurant offering a mix of Latin American flavours and live music in a very vibrant atmosphere and the ground floor features another dining option like Zoom Restaurant & Bar, which offers all day - dining with global and locally inspired dishes.

The properties provide functional and versatile meeting space with four meeting rooms, including the largest, at 223 square feet, cater to various business needs and the aforementioned Azotea rooftop bar can accommodate up to 200 guests for private events, offering a very dynamic environment for business meetings and leisure.

The General Manager of the two properties, Peter Dodds, expressed his enthusiasm about the opening, highlightingt the hotel's contemporary layout, spacious suite' design and Azotea, the rooftop bar and restaurant at Hyatt Place, which he expects to be a significant addition to the Leeds dining scene, offering Latin cuisine, live entertainment, and stunning city views.
