Kenya | Focusing and Leveraging on Motorsports to Boost Tourism in the Country

Kenya, a country in East Africa, boasting a varied territory encompasses, lakelands, mountain highlands, savannah, a beautiful coastline with pristine beaches, coral reefs, and historic sites, highlighted by the Great Rift Valley, a greological wonder with its dramatic landscapes,a populat destination in the African continent also known for its diverse wildlife including the “Big Five” and a blend of cultural experiences, from coastal Swahili culture to Maasai traditions in the interior is focusing and leveraging on motorsports to boost tourism in the country.

KTB, the Kenya Tourism Board, the country’s state - owned tourism marketing body said that it will tap into the growing motorsports enthusiasm in the East African region to increase visitor arrivals.

 An estimated 30.000 motorsports fans from Burundi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda will attend the WCR Safari Rally which is set to begin in Naivasha, a lakeside town in Nakuru County, 92.8 kilometres north west from the capital of the country Nairobi. 

Kenya Tourism Board added that WCR Safari Rally has been and is a key driver and integral in reinforcing the appeal of Kenya and the East Africa region to the world.

The Chief Eecutive Officer of the KTB, June Chepkemei in a statement issued in Nairobi that WCR Safari has transformed into a premier platform for showcasing Kenya’s tourism prowess to both regional and global business.

With this rising profile thanks to motorsports, the country is seeking to leverage, the excitement, passion, and energy of motorsports fans to become ambassador for Magical Kenya in the world and the East African neighbors represent an important and high - potential source market, given their proximity and improving connectivity. 

In addition the motorsports fans also fond about tourism, part of organized travel groups, will be treated to the scenic route highlighting some of Kenya’s picturesque landscapes and abundant wildlife as they make their way to Naivasha.

As additional note the Kenya Airways Regional Manager for East and Central Africa, Joseph Munyeti, discloded that the national carrier has extended a 12% discount to all passngers travelling to Kenya for the safari rally.
