Germany – Uefa Euro 2024 | A Great Boost for German Incoming Tourism

 

The European Football Championships which took place from 14th June to 14th July 2024 was a great boost for Germany confirmed with a very relevant data by the Federal Statistical Office and the studies commissioned by the German National Tourist Board.

With this important sporting event, the month of July recorded a 4.5% increase in overnight stays by international visitors compared to the same period in 2023, for a total of 10.7 million overnight stays in hotels and guesthouses with at least ten beds.

The 40 matches of Uefa Euro 2024 in June guaranteed above-average results in all ten German cities that hosted the event and the 11 subsequent knockout round matches that took place in July also attracted fans from the respective countries who came to Germany after the qualifying phase and the passage of the preliminary round.

According to the analysis carried out by MKG Consulting, hotel occupancy in Germany during the month of July 2024 was 71.6%, with an increase of 2.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

At a price of 108.80 per room per night, average revenues increased by 9.7% compared to 2023 and in superior category hotels, occupancy increased more than in the economic segment.

GNTB Executive Board President Petra Hedorfer commented that UEFA Euro 2024 has been an extraordinary success in sporting, social and economic terms, playing a key role in positioning Germany as a welcoming, hospitable and as a varied destination in its offerings.

According to the GNTB Travel Industry Expert Panel, about a quarter of international tour operators with activities in Germany have added new travel offers to their programs specifically developed for the European Football Championships.

According to the information portal, 35% said that the demand for these products was high or medium-high.

Fans' expectations, however, were not disappointed: according to a study by Nielsen Sports, the Global Leader in Sponsorship, Media Valuation & Data Analytics and the world's leading provider of audience and fan data for sporting events, 97% of international ticket holders said they would return to Germany, while 79% would recommend a trip to the city where they attended a match.

Nielsen Sports then added a significant figure by quantifying that 44% of ticket holders for the Uefa Euro Cup 2024 came from abroad.

In economic terms, the European Football Championship generated direct, indirect and induced effects for a total quantifiable amount of €7.44 billion while the advertising value deriving from global media visibility is estimated at €571 million.

Another relevant figure provided in terms of statistics is the period from January to July 2024, where inbound tourism in Germany recorded 48.2 million overnight stays, which means an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, marking a significant recovery compared to 2019 of 94.9%.

Corredor de Ecoturismo de la España Verde | A New Ecotourism Route in Northern Spain

 

The meeting of the Monitoring Commission in 2024 of the España Verde tourism brand was recently held, a brand which includes in its umbrella the corresponding territories of the autonomous communities of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country, this year coordinated by the community of Galicia.

This meeting was attended by the Director of Tourism of Galicia Xosé Merelles, the Deputy Minister of the Principality of Asturias Laura Martinez, the Director General of Tourism of the Government of Cantabria Gustavo Cubero, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Trade of the Basque Government Jakes Agirrezábal and the Deputy Director of Marketing of Turespaña Enrique Ruiz.

During this event, the main focus was on the activity carried out in recent months regarding the progress made in one of the central projects, namely Corredor de Ecoturismo de la España Verde the  Ecotourism Corridor of the Green Spain, with which it is intended to create the largest ecotourism route in the country with the financing of Next Generation funds.

At the moment there are a total of 331 local tourist companies in the 25 participating protected areas of the four autonomous communities that cover the territory of this area of the northern Iberian Peninsula.

Among them 114 companies are located in Galicia in six protected areas such as the Mariñas Coruñesas and Terras del Mandeo Biosphere Nature Reserve, the Maritime-Terrestrial National Park of the Atlantic Islands, the Ribeira Sacra and Sierras del Orobio and Coürel Biosphere Reserve, the Montañas del Coünel Xeoparque, the Os Ancares Lucenses Biosphere Reserve and the Montes de Cervantes,  Biosphere Reserve of Navia and Becerreá and Rio Eo, Oscos and Terras del Burón.

The companies are finalizing the details of the products that will be part of the great route of the Ecotourism Corridor that will cross the main places of interest of the España Verde with activities focused on wildlife observation and others related to active tourism among others.

The Director of Tourism of Galicia Xosé Merelles underlined that Galicia's commitment to deepen the internationalization of this joint brand in the north of the Iberian Peninsula in the coming months around similar resources such as the Camino de Santiago del Norte, the artistic and historical heritage, but also surfing with various press and familiarization trips in collaboration with offices in Spain,  Germany, Italy, Switzerland or France.

Rosewood Mandarina – Riviera Nayarit – Mexico | Expected to open in early 2025

 

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts,  international hospitality company founded in 1979 owned by Hong Kong – based Rosewood Hotel, plans to open the Rosewood Mandarina, in early 2025 in Riviera Nayarit, idyllic coastal resort in Mexico located between the Sierra Madre Mountain range and Pacific coastline, stretching from the historic port of San Blas to where the Rio Ameca meets Banderas Bay.

This future ultra-luxury property of only suites will be equipped with 134 rooms equipped with swimming pools and outdoor terraces including three special suites and two indopendant villas overlooking the sea and the local mountains.

Guests will have access to common areas that will include a restaurant offering Japanese cuisine, a bar developed on a cliff, other informal dining options on the beach, the Asaya Spa and the Rosewood Mandarina Explorers Club dedicated to children.

The hotel will also offer a wide range of activities including horseback riding, opportunities to participate in polo matches, surfing and zipline.

The hotel group has announced that the design of Rosewood Mandarina directed by Caroline Meersseman of Bando x Seidel Meersseman will draw inspiration from the pre-Hispanic cultures Cora and Huichol combined with contemporary luxury with modern comfort and the serenity of the local natural environment.

Rosewood Mandarina will be Rosewood Group's fourth property in Mexico, joining Rosewood Las Ventanas al Paraiso, Rosewood Resort in San José del Cabo, Rosewood Mayakoba in Riviera Maya and Rosewood Rosewood in San Miguel Allende.
