San Vincenzo - Tuscany | Glimmering Etruscan Coast Destination

San Vincenzo is a very attractive municipality located in the Tyrrhenian stretch of coast south of Livorno which takes the name of Costa degli Etruschi, the Etruscan Coast and which extends from the major centre of this territory Piombino.

Located in the Livorno Maremma or the historic Pisan Maremma San Vincenzo is bordered north of Castagneto Carducci and to the south by the Rimigliano Coastal Park and Piombino with in its inland the suggestive Val di Cornia.

This glimmering seaside resort is highlighted by its beautiful long sandy beach boasting a constant Blue Flag and alongside the municipal coastal stretch you can admire small charming coves and a splendid tiny Tyrrhenian bay.

If you are an art and history lover you can stop there, because also that centre  has a long history to narrate with considerable monuments attesting a notable patrimony.

That place was for a long time a Pisa domain and in a stop you can admire two defencive towers built by that iconic Marine Republic, the Torre di San Vincenzo, a tower erected by the pisans in the 13th century in proximity of the harbour as a bastion overlooking the Mediterranean.

Around the middle of the 16th century the Medici carried out some intervention to strengthen the defensive capabilities effectlively implementing the role played the tower developed on a square plan, arranged on three levels with a sloping base.

The external walls were covered in plaster following restorations carried out the last century and the top part of the tower culminates with a battlement delimiting the terrace which replaced the four – arched roof covering that was present at least until the end of the 18th century.

Continuation with the Torre Vecchia, the Old tower located in the southern boundaries of the municipality in a borough called Torraccia built by the Pisans between the 12th and 13th centuries redeveloped in the 16th century to enhance the new coastal system of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

Developed on a quadrangular plan on three levels with a sloping base that extends along three of the four sides, the external wall structures cocered in stone have some of the original loopholes that open at different heights, some quadrangular windows allow the corresponding internal levels to be identified from the outside.

In the upper part there is a solution of continuity on each side which originally allowed the battery of cannons with which the tower was equipped.

Afterwards you can visit the Parish Church of San Vincenzo build in the mid – neneteenh century and conscrated in 1865.

The building, adjacent to large residential complexes developed between the end of the 20th century has a very simple façade with a a portal surmounted by a circular rose windows.

Inside you can appreciate a cycle of frescoes by Giampaolo Talani executed between 1979 and 1987 depicting eight episodes from the life of Jesus Christ and the four Evangelists.

Continuation with the Torre Nuova, the new tower erected by the Medici family in the hamlet of Stellino in the northern part of the municipality pretty close to the slopes of the promontory of Poggio San Leonardo and right on the border with the territory of Piombino.

The construction began in 1670 and was completed in 1723 although it was called new tower the appearance is more similar to a coastal fortification developed on a rectangular plan divided in three levels with a tower – shaped building havinf a square section with very thick wall structures culminated in upper part with a loggia in which the armaments were arranged then replaced by a battlement during the renovation works carried out in the 19th century.

If you love trekking that municipality is a mecca for this activity because  it is the seat of the Parco Naturale costiero di Rimigliano, a protected nature reserve which extends in its boundaries  approximately 6,0 kilometres along a marvellous coast.

That beautiful park was established in 1973 and the visit is a great experience for a stunning scenery consisting in stupendous high cliffs and spectacular views overlooking crystalline and emerald waters but at a short distance from them you can reach sandy dunes and forests returning in a very short time from those great attractions to a marvellous coastal stretch by a very scenic path.

Visiting San Vincenzo is a great destination, a ravishing coast, a superb sandy beach, history and art, a splendid combination all to enjoy.

Gandria – Switzerland | Splendid Jewel nestled on Lake Lugano

Gandria is a small, beautiful  hamlet of Lugano in the Canton of Ticino with its evocative beauty for its position on the lake, recognized as a cultural patrimony of Switzerland of national importance characterized by its alleys, steep staircases, beautiful houses, narrow streets and inaccessible to cars.

This district is the only part of the municipality of Lugano with Caprino south of Lake Ceresio on the border with Italy and includes the town of the same name on the north shore of the lake where the customs of Gandria is located.

The Village is connected to Lugano and the Italian territory by the main road that runs along the northern shore of the lake and passes over the center of Gandria at the foot of Monte Bre'.

Once you reached Gandria I recommend starting your visit with the Church of San Vigilio, developed in the 13th century, although the first mention in an official document dates back to the 15th century, when in the year 1463 the church became a parish.

The building blends elements of Romanesque and Baroque architecture, the medieval part is characterized mostly in the southern section and in the bell tower, while the portal dates back to the 17th century.

The façade that can be admired today was built in the 19th century, specifically in 1873 by the architect Francesco Banchini while the statues are the work of the sculptor Girolamo Buzzi.

Continuation with the Customs Museum, a historical-ethnographic exhibition founded in 1949 that tells the story of the border with Italy and shows objects used by smugglers and staff of the Federal Customs Office.

The three-storey building can be reached by water from Lugano in about 25 minutes and consists of a permanent exhibition and other temporary ones dedicated to different themes.

A section is dedicated to the history of the more than 40,000 refugees, 4500 of whom were Jews, who reached the border to escape the racial laws during the Second World War.

Another section is dedicated to smuggling which mainly concerned cigarettes and tobacco but also luxury items.

In the garden in front of the entrance to the museum you will notice the presence of boundary stones that represent all the external borders of the Switzerland Confederation.

Another religious building of historical value is the Oratory of San Rocco erected in 1645 and enlarged in the 18th century.

The building with a classical façade built by the inhabitants of Gandria in honor of San Rocco for his miracles of protection from the plague inside boasts a floor in black and white shades of hexagons, an altar painted in light marble, sculptures of Cherubim angels placed on the top of the arch that frames the altar.

Other important works are the reproduction of a painting dedicated to San Rocco, a splendid terracotta Via Crucis and a terracotta statue depicting San Rocco.

Another attraction of Gandria is the famous Path of the Olive Trees carved into the rock in 1936 that connects Gandria to Lugano and other villages and hamlets.

A visit to Gandria is highly recommended to all those who wish to admire an absolutely special place on the wonderful Lake Lugano if you are planning a trip in this area of Switzerland.

Spain | The Works on the Montilla - Moriles Begin as a Cycle - Wine Tourist Destination

The Royal Spanish Cycling Federation through its Office for Transformation and Innovation has begun to carry out the first work operations within the project named "Wine Tourism Cycle of the Wine Routes of Montilla – Moriles".

This innovative initiative has the primary purpose of further improving wine tourism and cycling tourism in the geographical area of Montilla – Moriles in the southern part of the province of Córdoba, a DO wine area in Andalusia in southern Spain focused on these two locations.

AVINTUR, the managing body of the Montilla-Moriles Wine Route, is conducting the pilot project with the aim of promoting the culture of wine, with a concrete plan to deseasonalize demand and attract tourists to rural destinations in the Andalusian hinterland to enhance the wine and landscape heritage of this territory.

The Royal Spanish Cycling Federation has been in charge of developing all this and during several weeks has carried out fieldwork in places of interest such as the olive oil greenway which includes the stretch between Puente Genil and Lucena, the lagoons of Dulce and Amarga and the Royal Sanctuary of Maria Santisima de Araceli in Lucena.

Other highlights of this first research on the territory concern the Zoñar Lagoon located between Puente Genil and Aguilar de la Frontera, the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, the Castle and Roman Cisterns of Monturque, the Parish of San Mateo Apóstol, the Castle of Santaella, the Castle of Mencia and the famous Calle de las Flores

All these sites have entered the stage of the route from Moriles to Aguilar de la Frontera, through which various wineries of relevance belonging to the Montilla – Moriles Wine Route follow one another, with highlights the spectacular views of the local vineyards.

The work performed in carrying out the revisions of the previously designed routes in tracing the routes was carried out using the GPS, making video recordings, evaluating different alternatives for the routes and other tasks of verification of relevant data.

All that is framed in the so-called "Wine Tourism Experiences of Spain" project through the support granted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism "Tourism Experience Spain" financed by the European Union through the Next GenerationEU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience plan which will improve the tourist offer and promote the development of the territory.

The creation of a network of cycle-wine tourism itineraries will develop for over 450 kilometers through the 17 municipalities that make up the Montilla-Moriles Wine Route.

The Royal Spanish Cycling Federation through its Bike Territory initiative promotes the development of infrastructures and services for cyclists throughout the Spanish territory by also betting on the creation, certification and dynamization of specialized routes for cyclists and also on the promotion of ideal destinations for cycle tourism by encouraging a more sustainable tourism related to the activity of cycling.
