Costa Rica | Banco Popular and ICT Partnership to Promote the Strengthening of Tourism with Access to Financing and Technical Support

Costa Rica, Central American country, a rugged rainforested land, boasting a rich biodiversity, with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific, filled by pristine beaches and little bays, a paradise for adventures, trekking and water sports, with a mild climate all year, the country of “Pura Vida”associated with a sense of wellbeing, gratitude and positivity continues to improve its tourism sector with several activities and initiatives and now Banco Popular, famous Costa Rican public financial entity created in 1969 and  ICT, the Tourism Institute of Costa Rica established a partnership with the signing of an agreement to promote the strengthening of tourism with access to financing and technical support.

The agreement signed in a letter of understanding between the two entities promotes access to preferential financing and training in different key areas, such as sustainability supporting sustainable, innovative projects, digitalization, access to financial information and economic recovery, a  joint effort to continue to reinforce the Costa Rican tourism sector. 

This partnership opens financing and support opportunities for thousands of Costa Rican entrepreneurs and SMEs, small and medium - size enterprises dedicated to tourism activity in the Central American country.

In addition the agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between both institutions with the aim of promoting the economic growth of the tourism sector, in accordance with the National Tourism Plan and community development strategies that emphasizes environmental, economic and social sustainability, recognizing the importance of balancing conservation and development.

Through this alliance access to preferential financing will be promoted for projects focius on environmental sustainability, the digitalization of tourism services and post – pandemic economic recovery and in addition financial education, training in business management and specialized advice will be offered to actors in the tourism sector.

The General Manager of Banco Popular, Gina Carvajal, highlighted the importance of this partnership declaring that tourism is one of the main sources of employment and development in Costa Rica and with this agreement Banco Popular reinforces its permanent commitment to SMEs and entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, providing financial tools that allow the companies to grow in an innovative and sustainable way. 

As a bank of deep social commitment, Banco Popular continues to sow hope and open opportunities to more working people throughout the territory.

The Minister of Tourism, William Rodriguez, highlighted the importance of inter - institutional work to strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the tourism industry stating that this union of wills seeks to enhance the resilience of the tourism sector, providing concrete opportunities ro entrepreneurs and communities that depend of this activity and with the access to financing and technical assistance, the entity promote a more solid, inclusive and sustainable tourism.

The letter of understanding not only facilitates access to financial resources for companies but also promotes cooperation in high - impact initiatives that will contribute to the well - being of citizens.

Both institutions have expressed their interest in continuing to work together to strengthen tourism as an engine of economic and social development in Costa Rica.
