Nicaragua | Growing Dynamism in the Country's Tourism Sector Showcasing an Attractive Diversity of Tourist Proposals

Nicaragua, the geographically largest country in Central America, set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, a Latin American nation boasting a rich biodiversity with stunning volcanic landscapes, sensational beaches, remote idyllic islands, dramatic terrain of lakes, untamend rainforests, a great destination for adventure and cultural exploration, that offers diverse tourism experiences, from colonial cities like Granada and León, a delicious gastronomy a paradise for rappelling, trekking, hiking and kayaking lovers is experiencing a growing dynamism in the tourism sector showcasing an attractive diversity of tourist proposals.

The Co – Director of INTUR, Anasha Campbell, representing the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism, the body responsible for -promoting and regulating the development of tourism in the country has highlighted the visits to facilities by national and international tourists in a country which is consolidating as an emergent destination in the international scene.

Tourism is now the country's second - largest industry, the second largest source of foreign exchange and a key driver of economic growth, positively impacting various sectors like agriculture,commerce, finance and construction and linked to that the Co – Director highlighted the growing dynamism that the tourism industry reflects in the Central American nation.  

Nowadays the country is offering a diversity of tourist proposals from sun and beach to rural tourism, community tourism and faith activities, as a key attraction for this time and the Co - Director of INTUR highlighted the wide expectations for the Easter season in April, specifying that Holy Week is the ideal time for tourists and Nicaraguan families to enjoy the natural beauty of the country, gastronomic festivals, art, culture and destinations that they have always wanted to know.

In addition the Co – Director of INTUR mentioned that more than 165 events to be held in the country including Lenten food contests with the national final on 5th April 2025 in Chinandega, a city northwest of the capital Managua, situated about 20.0 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, close to the border to Honduras, major centre of a department that boasts stunning natural reserves, numerous pristine beaches, historic towns, mangroves and the volcano of San Cristóbal, the highest in Nicaragua, an ideal destination offering a large fan of tourist proposals in many segments,

Another relevant event, "the election of the summer queen" will take place on 30th March 2025, in San Carlos, Rio San Juan, a centre positioned on the confluence of Lake Nicaragua and San Juan River, renowned destination for its cultural manifestations and the idyllic atmosphere created by its exuberant nature, a town that was visited in 1866 by the iconic American writer, essayist and humorist Mark Twain. 

The Co – Director of INTUR also mentioned that after tourism from the United States, Costa Ricans are the second largest group of international visitors to vacation in the country and she also referred to Nicaragua's presence in international events, such as tourism fairs in Canada, Germany, Spain and the United States of America, where Nicaragua promoted and promotes its attractiveness and several tourism options.
