Ghana, a country in West Africa, adjacent to the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, a land with a rich culture, heritage, warmth and rhythm offering a variety of attractions such as vibrant cities, national parks, diverse wildlife, pristine beaches and a gorgeous hinterland signed a historic air services agreement with Canada to enhance connectivity, trade and tourism ties between the two countries.
The agreement, finalised on 5th March 2025 in Montreal, Canada, saw the African nation and the North American country signing their first bilateral Air Services Agreement, enabling designated to operate 14 passengers and 10 cargo flights per week between the two nations.
This relevant partnership aims to enhance air connectivity, trade and tourism ties allowing Air Canada, the flag carrier and the largest airline of the Northern American country to introduce direct flights to Ghana, while the western African nation, still in the process of establishing its national carrier itself to leverage the benefits of increased international air access.
The agreement is expected to strengthen furthermore important economic ties, with bilateral trade reaching $380 million two years ago and in addition to facilitate a dynamic tourism exchange.
Enhanced air connectivity will support logistic, attract Canadian visitors to Ghana's cultural and natural attractions, living an authentic experience in the African Continent and furthermore boosting business travel as a further resource in a very important tourism segment.
Cargo operators will also benefit form improved trade efficiency, with the African country focused on modernising its aviation sector and this agreement with Canada, undoubtedly marks a key step toward, positioning Ghana as a relevant hub in West Africa and expanding its presence with more visibility in the North American market.
