Italy | Investment Plans of Over €500.0 million in the Next Three Years for the Theme Parks

 For the three -year period 2025/2027 Italy is experiencing investment plans of over €500.0 for the theme parks around its territory, this is the budget envisaged for the operations of restyling and the structural enhancement of the 250 entertainment parks in the Italian Peninsula that exceeds over €500.0 equal to + 47% compared to the operations of previous years, a commitment born from a period of particular vitality in the sector. 

Among the most substantial investments is that of Merlin Enterntainments Limited, global entertainment company based in London, England, UK, which operates a number of theme parks and other visitor attractions, which recently allocated  €24.5 million for the 50th anniversary of Gardaland Resort, famous tourist complex located between the municipalities of Castelnuovo del Garda and Lazise in the province of Verona, adjacent to Lake Garda, drom which it takes its name.

A further investment plan concerns Caribe Bay, the theme park that has been awarded for 15 times as the best in Italy located in Jesolo in the province of Venice, famous for its 10.000 tons of white sand and over 2.500 palm trees resembling a Caribbean island, which planned €40.0 million of investments on a multi - year basis to renovate the space of its waterfalls.

The Spanish Group Parque Reunidos, international entertainment operator based in Madrid operates over 60 parks in about dozen countries invested €20.0 million into the field for the creation of a new themed area called “Nickelodeon Land” in Mirabilandia, a 210 - acre theme park, located in Savio, Ravenna, in Emilia Romagna region.

Leolandia, Italy’s third largest theme park, well known for its stunning with water rides, roller coasters, animals & miniature models of Italian landmarks situated in Capriate San Gervasio in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy is working on new attractions and has announced an investment plan of €20.0 million for an area of 20.000 square metres that will host 10 attractions.

Costa Edutainment, leading company in managing public and private recreational, cultural, and educational structures as well well as scientific research and development parks, headquartred in Genoa is investing €19.0 million in the famed Genoa Aquarium situated in the capital of Liguria region and Aquafan, large waterpark with many slides, pools and offering nighttime events situated in Riccione, on the Adriatic Coast in Emilia Romagna region.

According to the President of the Italian Permanent Parks Association of Confindustria, Luciano Pareschi as reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, famous financial newspaper of record owned by Confindustria, the theme parks industry is experiencing a favorable cycle with investments that exceed the forecasts and the large operators continue to drive the market and the parks are becoming real tourist destinations.

A real entertainment industry led by big players who now represent reference brands, such as Gardaland, which alone has planned an investment volume of almost €25.0 million in 2025 is a clear example and even the smallest realities show a significant propensity for renewal with new attractions and structural interventions.

All these plans are part of a significant commitment shown above all by the large operators in the sector who drive the development of these structures, pursuing the strategy of transforming these parks into real references destinations, involving the accommodation facilities of the area.

In addition there is also a great deal of excitement in the production of live events with several  entertainment shows, concerts and parade represent the plus offer of theme parks, organized in topical periods such as the Christmas holidays, and the Carnival period, with a budget of up €40.0 million.

 On balance, again according to the surveys of the sector associations, the turnover stands at €2.0 billion with an employment level of around 60.000 permanent and season employees.
