The Basque Country - Spain | Solid Growth in the Tourism Sector Accompanied by a Positive Advance on Deseasonalization

The Basque Country also known as Euskadi, an autonomous community in Northern Spain located in the Western Pyrenees, straddling the border between France and Spain on the coast of the Bay of Biscay lying between rivers Aturri to the north and the Ebro to the south, well known for its strong cultural traditions, splendid beaches, varied landscapes, a celebrate cuisine and a distinct language that pre - dates the Romance languages is experiencing a solid growth in the tourism sector accompanied by positive advance on deseasonalization as reported the Basque Minister responsible for Tourism, Javier Hurtado.

The Minister, stressed in the Basque Parliament  that the importance of the fact of the growth in tourism recorded in 2024 was linked to a solid process of deseasonalization and the evolution of the sector is positive not only in terms of growth but also in how it has been consolidated last year, tourism in the Basque Country grew moderately and steadily, with an increase of 4% compared to 2023.

A highlight of this good performance is the number visiting the community and that it occurred in a seasonally adjusted manner, marking a growth of 1.4% in the summer months and 4.7% outside the summer season.

Remarkable also the importance of international tourism, which grew by 7% in 2024, compared to 0.7% for domestic tourism, for the second consecutive year the Basque Country has registered for five consecutive months a greater number of international visitors than national tourists, something that positively contributes to the deseasnoalization of the tourism sector, a longer stay and an increase in tourist spending.

The Minister added that this positive growth has been possible thanks to three factors such as a recent regulation, that the Basque tourism sector is updating and adapting to new needs, a solid sustainability and promotion strategy, and a commitment from the sector that is reflected in the adhesion of more than 800 companies to the Code of Ethics for Tourism, a comprehensive set of principles designed to guide key - players in tourism development.
