Turkey | Experiencing a Notable International Tourist Arrivals Growth

Turkey, a country mainly located in Anatolia in West Asia, with a relatively small part in Southern Europe called East Thrace, a popular tourist destination that offers a more than fascinating blend of history, culture and natural beauty from the vibrant city of Istanbul to the spectacular landscapes of Cappadocia, boasting several historical UNESCO World sites like the emblematic Pammukale among others and the beautiful seaside resorts along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts is experiencing in this beginning of 2025 a notable international tourist arrivals growth.

Last January 2025, the country recorded a 6.1% increase in international travellers arrivals, reaching 2.17 million following a 4.2% increase in the previous month with a notable influx of visitors coming from  Bulgaria, Germany and Iran, despite declines from Russian and Georgian markets.

  In 2024, Turkey welcomed 52.6 million international visitors, achieving a 7% increase from the previous year and setting a new tourism revenue record of $61.1 billion, according to official figures released by the competent authorities.

Arrivals grew notably from Iran, +13.6% to 240.6 thousand, Bulgaria, +2.1% to 165.8 thousand and Germany,+5.4% to 150.6 thousand on the contrary, visits decreased mainly from relevant traditional markets such as Russia, - 11.6% to 203.7 thousand and Georgia - 4.3% to 93.1 thousand.

In 2025, Turkey's tourism industry is expected to continue to grow, with more visitors and a higher revenue, a forecast confirmed by the data provided with reference to January 2025.

According to current projections, the country's tourism outlook for 2025 is very optimistic, with expectations of continued record - breaking growth, driven by increasing visitors numbers, rising tourism revenue, and strategic investments positioning Turkey as a leading global destination for travellers and investors.

The Turkish Government forecasts around 64 million visitors and $63.6 billion in tourism revenue for 2025, building on the strong performance seen in 2024 and supporting these optimistic expectations Turkey is promoting its diverse tourism diversifying  its tourism offering beyond traditional beach holidays, including cultural eperiences, historical sites, and winter sports which will enlarge the fan of of options attracting more and more visitors interested in these tourist segments.
