Protagonists of this initiative are the capital Asunción, vibrant city on the eastern bank of the Paraguay River, one of the oldest cities in South America and the longest continually inhabited area in the Rio de la Plata basin, for this reason known as “the Mother of Cities”, highlighted by by its superb, colonial architecture, verdant parks and lively streets and the Central Department attractive territory where urban excitement meets natural beauty and boasting a very rich cultural heritage and the attractive lakeside city of Areguá.
This new initiative also seeks to strengthen domestic tourism through accessible and brief experiences, allowing Paraguayans to rediscover their own country as a cultural immersion in the history, traditions and culture of a land which boasts a relevant heritage next to attractive landscapes.
This project, started in January will run until February is part of a joint effort between the public and private sectors launched to diversify the tourism offer and promote sustainable development.
The Director of Tourism Services at SENATUR, Deisy Varela, in local media, stressed that these tours not only promote tourism but also generate economic opportunities for local communities.
One of the outstanding tours proposed is the so – called “Camino de la Esperanza” consisting in a tour across Paraguay that offers a cultural, historical ad spiritual experience combining art with spirituality, where with the participation of the Herald of the Gospel, visitors will be able to explore their home, the Mother Church of Good Counsel in Ypacarai. town situated in the westward extension of the Brazilian Highlands, well known for its lake, captivating landscapes, and known as the "City of Folklore" for its emblematic Festival.
The tour also includes a visit to a Ñanduti workshop a form of traditional lacemaking and its music, in the city of Itauguá, expanding city with historical buildings, beautiful artisanship, scenic greenery and lake views located about 30 kilometres from the capital Asunción.
Another initiative refers to “Asunción, Guarania e Historia” a special tour dedicated to the history of Guarania, a musical genre from Paraguay that combines folk and popular music with the Guarani language as protagonist, well known for its slow, melancholic rhytms and melodies created with the purpose of expressing the character of the Paraguayan people, recently recognized a Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, in an excursion that culminates with a visit to the Sugarcane Museum, where participants will be able to taste must and acquire souvenirs.
The third proposal is “Areguá con Encanto” which invites the participants to discover the beauty of Areguá, creative city and the capital of the Central Department, known for its lake, splendid natural landscapes, vibrant culture, colonial architecture and historic cobblestone street and famous for its pottery and strawberry products.
