KLM Royal Dutch Airlines | Cost Containment Plan Launch for the Next Three Years

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines or simply known as KLM, the flag carrier of the Netherlands headquartered in Amstelveen, municipality and city in the province of North Holland with its main hub at nearby Amsterdam Airport Schipol launches its containment plan for the next three years.

The company, subsidiary of the Air France -  KLM group and a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance focuses on increasing productivity, simplifying business organization, cutting costs and if necessary even postponing investments.

These strategic moves were launched to face a three-year period that does not hide difficulties, with a problem that arose in the first six months of 2024, a period in which the Dutch airline recorded a loss of €31 million compared to the €129 million profit recorded in the same period of the previous year.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' primary objective to deal with these problems that have arisen recently will therefore be to restructure with the mission of increasing the profit margin by 2028 to over 8% compared to 5.3% recorded last year.

The airline will immediately make changes regarding the flight schedule with the aim of optimizing the hours on board of staff and increasing productivity by 5% also through the use of automations.

In addition, planned projects for the new headquarters and for maintenance and engineering buildings will be postponed while investments in new aircraft should not be postponed.
