The resort is  a place on human scale highlighted by the magnificent beauty of a natural environment composed by inviting sandy beaches, fascinating cliffs and captivating bays and it had a notable increasing development in terms of popularity in the last decades thanks to the great  establishment of a wide range of new hospitality structures and the creation of that jewel called Dinevi Marina which is today one of the most classy yachting harbours in the Southeastern European continent.

The Incoming Tourism Board and local Tour Operators have undoubtedly done great work in the last years in collaboration with new investors also preserving the image of the local environment because most of the Hotels were built in proximity of the coast and they did not break the outstanding view of the splendid landscapes.

All that year by year elevated Sveti Vlas as a Top destination which immediately attracts the visitor for its marvellous  geographic position simply unique lying in the northern side of a wonderful gulf flanking the pearl of the Black Sea Nessebar in a point where spectacular mountains gently embrace the sea.

Those very special features are extremely loved and appreciated by many photographers who can immortalise in several stupendous pictures a spectacular jagged coast towards south where lies the stunning Pomorie and in opposite direction a marvellous headland next to a long attractive straight coastal stretch further north leading to Byala.

The excellent quality of the Black Sea water with a very low salinity index lining dream sandy beaches and an uncontaminated atmosphere due to the  absence of industries are a great incentive to chose Sveti Vlas also as a fantastic climatic destination.

The cool breeze coming from the nearest Stara Planina, a height which is also a special place for passionate trekkers generates in that area a fantastic micro climate very appropriate since a long time ago for many people with lungs diseases who can enjoy that sort of Eden as a salubrious natural therapy which in addition in the immediate inland is highlighted by an intact green woodland.

The temperatures in summer are wonderful with an average media generally around the 25º/26º degrees with approximately 250 sunny days a year, an enjoyable ventilation at evening and a total absence of humidity. Spring is also a great season highlighted by a very mild climate while autumn and winter are never too cold.

A very special feature to take in high consideration is in that specific area the UVA rays has a very low intensity and that means a paradise for sun lovers who can enjoy hours and hours under a warm sun without risks of ski cancer or dermatological problems.

A vast selection of outdoor activities such as water sports, trekking, cycling and furthermore a unique and enjoyable cultural and historic tourism with many wonderful places to visit in the immediate surroundings is a further attraction discovering a territory which was colonised by Thracian, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Slavs and Turks all populations which left historical, cultural, architectural and gastronomical marks still visible today.

All the local environment and immediate vicinity are absolutely outstanding,Sveti Vlas is located on the coast but it is a sunny gateway with a very easy access to the Balkans where those mountains in that corner of Europe are a sort of inviting  hallway to explore the superb and stupendous interior.

The nearest inland is characterised by natural marvels, as intact valleys, verdant forests, protected nature reserves with wonderful landscapes but also relevant archaeological sites with chances to enjoy touristic routes discovering a multitude of superb Monasteries and enchanting villages which preserved all their old charm and identity.

The excellent facilities in terms of communications  providing the chance to enjoy brilliant radial excursions in a Fly & Drive planning day by day itineraries very significant visiting other coastal resorts with also extensions to two foreign countries not far as Turkey and Romania which offer a stunning historic patrimony are other options to enjoy a complete and unforgettable great holiday.

The Dobruja region is another incentive, an area which apart its numerous monumental attractions also gives the opportunity to plan enogastronomic routes tasting wine and several tastefully specialities.

Sveti Vlas has very comfortable Hotels established just a few minutes from the beach, a range of fine restaurants serving a  traditional gastronomy and the absence of a heavy traffic is another detail that many visitors love very much.

No problems of parking, there are never long queue to the entrance or exit of the resort, the coastal road has an excellent connection from and to Burgas and including if you are in Sofia, the Capital of the country situated at 420,0 kilometres west of the resort in approximately four hours driving you can reach that resort in a very easy way.

Apart all those impressive features ,the resort also has an ancient history to narrate and according to archaeological excavations in the local boundaries were found artifacts linked to the first Thracian tribes which populated the Balkans, findings which certified the establishment of a village pretty active along the entire bay of Nessebar and officially founded in the 2th century AD.

The ancient former name of the resort was Larissa of clear Greek heritage and that civilisation, a mythological denomination of a nymph of Thessaly described by the iconic Hellenic geographer and writer Pausianas who also lived in Rome during the times of the Emperor Hadran as the daughter of Pelasgus who according different hypothesis could be a son of the God Zeus according to the Arcadian tradition or in that of Thessaly son of the God Poseidon or in a further considered in those ancient times by several Greeks as the first man created by the divinities of the Olympus.

The Hellenic colonists were the first settlers to develop a former  solid economy mainly based on maritime trades along the coasts of the Black Sea and reaching during the navigation the Mediterranean with several contacts with the motherland.

Including later they established relevant routes by land in the interior crossing the Balkans and creating in that place an Emporium and an active maritime network left as legacy to the Romans and entering in the domains of Byzantine Empire in the 5th century AD.

In the following centuries that area was a focal point of disputes between the powerful Constantinople representing the Roman Empire of Orient with capital the current Istanbul and the first Bulgarian Empire founded in 681 by Bulgar tribes led by Asparukh which conquered for a period that land.

In the 14th century was adopted the Slavic name Sveti Vlas  when in the current resort was erected a Manastir a monastery dedicated to Saint Blaise, notorious Patron of farmers, merchants and traders, famous Bishop of Sebastea in Armenia and also famed Physicist between the 3th and 4th centuries, a holy figure venerated by the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.

That century was also highlighted by the the Ottomans who started to rule the entire Bulgaria and  that sacred building was damaged several times by the attacks of the Turkish soldiers during the conquest of that land and including it was devastated by the several incursions by pirates present in that time along the coasts of the Black Sea or coming from the Bosporus Strait.

During the times of Ottoman Empire times the settlement was  renamed Kücük Manastir and it lost relevance due to the choices of the new rulers to privilege major centres as the nearest Nessebar and other centres with a bigger population and much more developed.

The site retook its former denomination  after the autonomy of Bulgaria in 1878 after the Treaty of of Berlin which sanctioned an autonomus country inside the Turkish Empire establishing a Monarchy before with the Prince Alexander I who ruled since 29th April 1879 and later with Ferdinand I who took the throne in 1897 and elevated Tsar on 22th April 1908 Tsar with the official proclamation of Independence of Bulgaria.

Unfortunately the history of the former flourishing Larissa under Ottoman rule was not very lucky in terms of preservation of its historic and cultural patrimony heritage because in its
boundaries there were six Orthodox Monasteries such as Sveti Vlas, Sveti Petar,Sveti Ilie,Sveti Andrej, and Svet Ana but all them were destroyed in the 18th century.

There was also a colony of Greek inhabitants, mainly artisans and traders which were the descendants of the first Hellenic colonists but the Balkan Wars and also tense relationships between 1916 and 1922 changed the history of the town.

The major part of that Greek population was obliged to emigrate to the motherland replaced by Bulgarians, a historic event on national scale and not only in the area of the Black Sea.

There were in that period authentic exoduses from a country to another in a big area of the Balkans result of historic and secular conflicts not just from part of Bulgaria and Greece but also with protagonists other countries such as Turkey, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, times highlighted by continuous claims of territories, disputes of borders and endless political frictions.

The period corresponding after the end of the 2nd World War brought other mutations, the King Simeon II was obliged to abdicate in 1946 when the Bulgarian Communist regime in the sphere of Soviet Union abolished the Monarchy.

Just some years later  the country signed the Pact of Warsaw in 1955 consolidating its position in European Socialist bloc well known during the times of the Cold War with the continent cut in two parts.

The name Sveti Vlas as seaside and climatic resort started to have a relative importance in the 60's during the period of the President Todor Khristov Zhivkov as destination for pensionists and workers linked to the party.

In the same period it started to receive tourists from the USSR satellite countries who mainly came to visit the ancient Mesembria, the current Nessebar and they also discovered the beauty of that marvellous coastal string which connected that famed Hellenic-Dorian town to the historic Emona.

The view of that place impressed very much those visitors and Sveti Vlas reached popularity in the entire Socialist world and it started to be promoted in meetings as a great heaven of peace for its relaxing atmosphere and splendid beaches. All that generated a sort of successful operation of an almost unknown paradise and.in the following decades that gained year by year fame.

Many tourists came mainly from the former Soviet Union, DDR Democratic Republic of Germany, Czechoslovakia and Poland ,all that was created by the State  which periodically invited leaders and secretaries to check the quality of determined places among them Sveti Vlas and later promoting them in the local realities.

The major presence of western tourists was from France due to the excellent relations in that period established  between the local Socialist institutions of those countries and the young French socialists who in the 70's also started to reach destination of the Romanian Black Sea landing numerous in Costinesti (I wrote a post about that place if you are interested) considered much more affordable including of the cheap former Yugoslavia, Spain and Greece also selected Sveti Vlas in their list of preference.

The tourism with that operation had increasing flows of incoming including it gained an important visibility in a considerable market as France despite it always remained pretty overshadowed by the eternally shimmering Nessebar.

The fall of Berlin wall in 1989 and the Socialist regimes collapses opened different doors. There was also a renaissance in terms of local  Tour Operators and the Tourism Board worked with more intensity and presence in International Fairs with a marked presence in exhibitions in Germany, Great Britain, France and Italy considered in Europe great outgoing markets and notably interested in the Black Sea seaside resorts.

Definitely the ceased bureaucracy linked to visas and a new image of a country which started to change its image  with an increasing relationship between new local TT.OO which started to invite the western colleagues representatives to enjoy Educational were the ideal and right instruments which launched Sveti Vlas as destination with a continental visibility.

There were in the middle of the 90's important operations in terms of development of a product with confidential FIT catalogues, brochures, leaflets distributed in fairs and meetings including a very interesting plan of considerable allotments distributed to loyal foreign patners and the arrival of a wide number of tourists from the European Community followed by Scandinavian visitors increased the image of Sveti Vlas in the International Market.

The agglomeration of that seaside resort is mainly arranged between the long avenue Ulitsa Sveti Vlasiy which crosses the entire centre of the resort and it is also main road leading to Nessebar.South of that important artery behind Ulitsa Jasen which is the main access to the beaches are situated the major parts of the Hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes.

The central core of Sveti Vlas is practically at the cross of Ulitsa Han Krum and Ulitsa Car Simeon which are among the most important streets in the centre while Ulitsa Stara Planina is the road which limits the centre of the town flanking Grobishten Park in its northern side and a further relevant axis is Ulitsa Baikal corresponding to the northern exit directly leading to the extra radius.

There are three beaches of the resort are subdivided on a stupendous stretch of approximately 1,5 kilometres of longitude and they are called Central Beach, New Beach and East Beach with a fourth denominated South Beach just 200,0 metres away and flanking the Yachting Marina.

All them offer the right space along a scenic arched bay, they are very close to the centre and the accommodations, easily accessible with an average width of 15,0 / 16,0 metres boasting excellent cleanliness, maintenance and surveillance services and awarded with the Blue Flag all features which conquer the visitor.

A fine gold sand, the chance to practise different kinds of water sports, they are very loved by many families with children because there are never high tides and the depth near the shoreline in not high.

Apart their beautiful appearance they have a curiosity and a peculiar aspect because unlike other beaches in Bulgaria they look at towards south, unique and only case about the coastal seaside resorts in the country.

Dinevi Marina is one of the recent jewels of the resort and probably the major tourist effect which generated in the course of the local history the success elevating Sveti Vlas as a main destination on the shore of the Bulgarian Black Sea.That Yachting Port considered one of the most outstanding complexes of the entire coastline an outstanding premier marina for design position, services and facilities.

It is the largest Marina in the country and it offers a splendid views sailing offshore of the coast with striking images during the day from south during the navigation in proximity of Pomorie but also from the headland of Nessebar with its scenic silhouette beneath a verdant hilly plateau dominating that fascinating harbour and  and also with its panoramic scenic view at night with its several attractive artificial lights.

Its attractive aspect with its quays which in a square perimeter enclose that captivating masterpiece since its inception elevated that site as a landmark and charming picture of Sveti Vlas becoming its iconic symbol.

Dinevi Marina can accommodate over 300 Yachts of different size, it boasts a beautiful centre which apart that stunning harbour offers a modern Nautical Club providing all the services related to water sports to be practised at the highest level, a Shipping Centre,a luxury five star Hotel, restaurants, cafes and bars.

The construction of that splendid complex  also gave the old beach a new image,it was enlarged, remodelled, many rocks and stones were removed creating the South Beach, an operation which took place in 2007 becoming a very trendy destination for many sun lovers spending holidays in Sveti Vlas.

It became a important meeting point of competitions as regattas, with the famed Regatta Evolution Cup a stage of the Regatta Port Burgas calling a notable number of fans and interest of media and Institutions from all around the country and abroad.

The protagonist of the establishment of that diamond was  Dinevi Group, a famed Institution born in 1989 and it  played an important role about the development of Bulgarian tourism, with the construction of a network of complexes and accommodations also in the prestigious Sunny Beach, Burgas, in the capital Sofia and in an important Ski resort in the province of Smolyan, Pamporovo (I wrote a post about that resort in the case you are interested)

That prestigious group is also working to donate Sveti Vlas another gem called Admiral Complex developing its construction, a structure which will give further appeal and major future flows to the resort.

Close to the Marina there is also an excellent Spa Centre called Victoria offering everything about Spa,Wellness and treatments and also that is a special incentive for all the visitors who during a stay desire to look after the body with very trendy sessions.

The resort has its Church dedicated to St.Blaise, it is an Orthodox Temple erected pretty recently in 2007 but it is is the right replica of the building which according to historical documentations existed in that place until the 17th century before to be destroyed.

It consists in a wide white construction developed on a large irregular rectangular plan,a white building with a sinuous facade and a doorway covered by a sloping roof supported by columns which form a charming portico.Very attractive is a large belfry similar to a bell tower inserted on the upper section of the Church consisting in a series of three square blocks placed before a charming ample dome of clear Byzantine inspiration.

The resort is just 10,0 kilometres away from the magnificent Nessebar considered for its relevant historic patrimony the diamond of the Bulgarian Black Sea,a town with a rich historic heritage also nicknamed the Dubrovnik of Bulgaria  in comparison with that Croatian shining jewel considered the pearl of the Adriatic and also that is a great invitation with the opportunity to admire a place which was a flourishing site during Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian and Turkish times with architectural marvels absolutely impressive.

The proximity to the famed Slantchev Briag well known internationally as Sunny Beach that wonderful stretch of golden sand one of the most relevant symbols of the entire coastline located just 5,0 kilometres away is another great attraction to admire a place that since 1958 is a national landmark, an iconic place you can reach in a very short time.

Compared for its vibrant nighlife and bustling atmosphere a sort of Bulgarian Ibiza  developed by the talented architect Nikola Nikolov from Stara Zagora who elevated in that resort the prestigious Restaurant-Casino, Hotel Pirin, Hotel Globus, Hotel Europe and Hotel Sozopol-Nessebar.

Those short distances permit the visitors to reach easily those stunning sites renting a bicycle,by car bus, taxi, but there are also some services of transport by boat linking Sveti Vlas to Nessebar.

It is a  great way to have a panoramic view of the conformation of the Bulgarian coastline, a unique experience to admire the bay and the peninsula where those emblematic places are situated from a different perspective looking at a tip which from far looks like a head of wolf next to a striking the arched gulf and very suggested if you are a photography lover with the opportunity to immortalise something of simply marvellous.

A further beautiful place  I suggest you  enjoying unique splendid panoramic views is Elenite  a resort which starts is just 3,0 kilometres east of Sveti Vlas. Apart a splendid sandy beach in that place you will be delighted by a splendid promontory with a unique and unforgettable sight towards the headland of Nessebar and the large bay of Burgas.

From there you can continue until Cap Emona and that place is another mandatory, a great destination with a cape offering marvellous panoramic images of the entire local coastline.

That site is well known for its ancient ruins consisting in a ancient Monastery, a fortress and an old lighthouse highlighted by a beautiful  mountainous plateau from which summit you can admire some of the most striking images of the Bulgarian littoral with spectacular and stunning maritime views in clear sunny days until the magnificent tip of Pomorie and the extraordinary jagged coastline with the fascinating silhouettes of Chernomorets and Sozopol. (I wrote a post about that site if you are interested)

You can find in Sveti Vlas some restaurants offering International Cuisine and typical Bulgarian gatrononomy  enjoying the excellent grilled fish of the Black Sea, a culinary highlight is the exquisite carp and do not miss to try the Ribena Chorba, a delicious fish soup with Turkish heritage.

There are different kinds of Chorbas using as ingredients veal, lamb, beef and chicken meats but also with only vegetables and one of them is the Bob Chorba  made with tomatoes, onions, beans, carrots and aromatic herbs.

A further variant is the Shkembe Chorba prepared by lamb tripe, beef or pork adding paprika, garlic, hot pepper, vinegar and a bit of milk.

There are other plates inherited by colonists or nearest countries as a local delectable Mousaka, very similar to that from Greece, the Kebapcheta, minced lamb meat seasoned with spices of clear Ottoman origin derived by the traditional Kebab.

The Sarmi is a Slavic plate very common also in the nearest Serbia, consisting in stuffed cabbage leaves wrapping rice, meat, vegetables and rice with an addition of yogurt, the latter a national pride considered among the best of the world.

Very common is also the Shopska, a mixed salad prepared with cucumber, tomatoes, onion, green and red peppers, salt, vinegar, black pepper and feta cheese. About other  products you can often find in different kinds of plates is the famed Sirene, a brined cheese made with goat, cow and sheep milk.

Sveti Vlas is very well connected to Letishte Burgas Airport the second largest airport of the country and  in 40 minutes drving approximately you will be at destination of that city and a further option is Varna which is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes away driving.

That resort is a very suggested holiday destination along the coasts of the Bulgarian Black Sea. Magnificent  beaches, peace ,relaxation, water sports, comfortable accommodations,   ideal for all those people who love a splendid place with many positive features and very attractive for a scenic maritime environment but at the same time higlighted by the mountains of the Balkans.

That stunning sunny gateway offers  the great chance to discover the historic patrimony of a very attractive corner of Bulgaria with very interesting radial excursions and including to explore the nearest beautiful interior is certainly a stupendous incentive for every tourist.
