CATA - COMMCA | Strategic Partnership to Promote Equality and Equity in Tourism in Central America

 

CATA, the Central American Tourist Promotion Agency promoting multi - tourism destinations at an international level and COMMCA, the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Women of Central America, and the Dominican Republic have formalized a strategic partnership consisting in a memorandum signed to create an alliance to promote gender equality and equity in Central America.

This agreement, signed as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, reflects the commitment of both institutions to promoting inclusive, safe and responsible practices in tourism.

This relevant initiative aims not only to promote respect for and protection of women's rights, but also to strengthen their participation and leadership in a regional tourism development and a document was signed by the Secretary General of CATA, Boris Iraheta and the Technical Secretary of COMMCA, Michelle Godoy.

Among the strategic actions agreed, training of gender equality in tourism stands out through specialized training for key players in the tourism sectors, aimed at implementing inclusive practices.

In addition to awareness campaigns with initiatives aimed at promoting safe tourism for women, educating both tourists and operators on the importance of environments free from violence.

Visibility of joint actions through the use of CATA and COMMCA digital platforms to highlight initiatives that promote women's rights and encourage their equal participation in tourism.

Similarly, the exchange of experience es between SICA member is planned, highlighting successful projects that have integrated gender equality into tourism.

Awareness campaign or gender – based violence with the creation of educational content to raise awareness on the need to eradicate gender – based violence in the sector.

On the other hand, the alliance contemplates the preparation of cross – sectoral project profiles for the identification and promotion of joint initiatives to manage the support of international cooperation.

This Memorandum of Understanding marks a milestone in promoting equality in the tourism sector, positioning Central America as a region committed to respect for human rights and sustainable development.
