Galicia – Spain | €27.5 Million Investment for the Competitiveness and Modernisation of its Tourism Sector

 

Galicia, autonomous community in Spain's northwest,verdant region of the Iberian Peninsula bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, land with a rich historical and cultural heritage with cities and villages boasting a remarkable artistic value with breathtaking landscapes along its coastline and interior will invest  €27.5 Million for the Competitiveness and Modernisation of its Tourism Sector.

The Director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles visited the Grand Proa Hotel in Poio, a municipality in the province of Pontevedra where he pointed out that between the end of 2024 and 2025 Turismo de Galicia allocates this amount in different lines for the modernization and improvement of the tourist establishments of the Galician offer.

The Galician Government will allocate €14.0 Million of these €27.5 Million in 2025 for the renovation of tourist facilities in the Community and all thar reflects how the Xunta of Galicia is making a significant effort to improve the competitiveness of the tourism sector of Galicia as a formula for optimising the destination and making the tourist activity a source of income for the territory.

Specifically, Grand Proa Hotel in Poio has been the beneficiary of aid for the implementation of actions to improve energy efficiency and the work involved the insulation of the facades , the replacement of the windows and radiators with a cost of €154.536 of which Turismo de Galicia financed 54.74%.

The Director of Tourism of Tourism of Galicia stressed that this aid line, whose deadline expires on 9th december 2024, is an important impetus to take actions that allow greater energy effcciency and ensuring a more sustainable and respectful tourist activity for the natural environment.

The Xunta de Galicia allocates €10 million for this call financed with European funds, and currently 203 applications have been registered.

The Director commented that all this allow them to proceed towards the renewal of the tourist facilities in Galicia and also referring to the important investments planned by his department for the creation of new tourist establishments and the implementation of renovation works and to renew the infrastructure of tourist accommodation and catering establishments.

In addition to all that, Turismo de Galicia will include in the future Spa Plan a specific call for the creation of new Spas and the improvement of existing ones.

In this series of actions, the Xunta de Galicia will invest a total of €14 million next year, in addition to €3.5 million allocated for improvement actions in tourist establishments during the current year.

Finally, the Director of Tourism of Galicia wanted to thank the support of the business world in the search for quality tourism and in this sense the allusion was for the recent one published in the DOG, the Official Gazette of Galicia, in which a total of 102 subsidies are granted to municipalities, natural and legal persons of which 88 correspond to tourism companies, to help finance the processes of obtaining or maintaining the Q for Tourism Quality or S for Tourism Sustainability label of the Spanish Institute for ICTES, Quality and Sustainability Tourism.
