Guatemala, Central American country situated south of Mexico, home of ancient Mayan sites, highlighted by rainforests, volcanoes, dramatic landscapes all around its territory and a very attractive coastline through INGUAT, the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism, government institution of tourism which aims at promoting the domestic and incoming tourist activities has reported that the arrivals of international visitors grew by 16% between January and October 2024 always compared to the same period in 2023.
This figure represents a notable advance that shows the fruits of the campaigns to promote the country's tourism offer, characterized by its cultural richness and the warmth of its people with also multiple, new proposals with the presence in important tourism fairs in Europe.
It has been known that international tourism appreciated the image of Guatemala, as a unique destination, full of history, customs, traditions, and linguistic diversity, with 25 lannguages including 22 of Mayan origin, Xinca and Garifuna, all features which attract international tourists who want to live a memorable experience in a splendid Latin American country.
The Multiple destinations chosen to visit by tourists, promise different experiences, with towns that reflect a deep cultural legacy and the tourist offer is very varied and diversified offering a large fan of options for everyone.
In the first ten months of 2024 Guatemala received 2.463.179 tourists coming from different part of the world, and interested in discovering the natural, architectural and gastronomic treasures and highlights of Guatemala.
From the Department of Research and Market Analysis of INGUAT, it has been reported that 59% of visitors arrived by land, 37% did so by air and 4% through seaports.
The aforementioned flow of visitors generated a significant economic impact in key sectors auch as hotels, gastronomy, trade, transport and handicrafts.
It should be noted that the increase has been especially noticeable in tourism from Central America, signing 1.472.255 visitors, a figure that represent an increase of 17% compared to 2023 a growth that was also reflected in the arrival of 658.271 tourists coming from North America which means an increment of 19%, 108.893 from South America also with an increase of 19%, 140.717 from Europe that means 6% more and 83.043 international visitors from other regions, marking an increase in this case of 13%.
