Peru, a megadiverse country in western South America, well known for its habitats ranging from the arid plains of its long Pacific coastline to the peaks of the imposing Andes stretching north to southeast and the tropical forest of the Amazon basin to the east, with the Amazon River, a land highlighted by stunning UNESCO Heritage sites and the iconic Inca Civilization according to a report by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism Mincetur received a total of 2.720.719 international tourists, which represents a growth of 34.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
The Ministy commented that the increase was led by visitors from Chile, the United States of America, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia and Colombia and only those six countries represented 65.9% of the total number of international tourists who arrived in Peru.
The aforementioned data are equivalent to 74.2% of
the tourist flows recorded in the same period of 2019, in other words Peru is
still far from the recovering pre - pandemic levels as other countries in the
region have done but there are several, positive signals.
In the Monthly Tourism Report developed by Mincetur between January and October of the current year, a total of 594.315 Chilean tourists visited Peru followed by 502.173 Americans, 244.429 Ecuadorians, 157.690 Brazilians, 154.066 Bolivians and 138.746 Colombians.
The number of travellers from Chile registered a growth of 21.4%, while that of the United States of America recorded an increase of 28.3%, Ecuador 25.2%, Brazil 48.9%, Bolivia 53.7% and Colombia 18.6%.
The same report shows that, between January and October 2024, the number of tourists from Poland, the Dominican Republic and India exceeded pre - pandemic levels.
According to the aforementioned report, in that period a total of 10.946 Poles visited the different corners of Peru equivalent to an increase by 21,6% than in 2019 10,672 Dominicans with an increment 0f 38.8% and 8.981 Indians with an increment of 14.9%.
Compared to 2023 data, between January and October 2024 there was a notable growth in tourists from Uruguay, Japan, Canada and China.
In this sense, the report developed by Mincetur indicates that in the current year a total of 13.046 travellers from Uruguay visited different areas of the country, a data which represents an increase of 76.7% more than in the same period of the previous year, 17.657 Japanese visitors with an increase of 100.1%, 61.231 Canadians with an increment of 75.0% and Chinese tourists incrermented by 85.3%.
Similarly, it shows that the number of Poles who entered in Peru in 2024, a figure mentioned above increased above, increased considerably by 88.2%.
By regional blocs South America contributed 51.8% of international tourists with 1.408.808 visitors followed by North America with 23.9% and 650.244 visitors and Europe with 16.8%, 456.339 visitors, Asia contributed 3.8% with 103.126 tourists and Central America with 2.7% and 72.235 visitors.
