Meliá Hotels International - Grupo Mirgor | Partnership to Build $50 Million Luxury Hotel in Ushuaia – Argentina

 

Meliá Hotels International, Spanish hotel chain founded in 1956 and based in Palma de Mallorca, and Grupo Mirgor, one of the main developers of technological innovation in Argentina, transforming it, through its investments and advances, also operating in the infrastructure sector have revealed plans of a partnership to build a $50 million luxury hotel in Ushuaia, famed town located on the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, the southernmost tip of South America nicknamed the "End of the World".

The five-star hotel will operate under Gran Meliá brand, characterized by the extraordinary architecture of its hotels, the quality of the cuisine evoking local flavours, the respect of nature, its accurate service and details deeply rooted in the Spanish culture and style.

This venture is part of Grupo Mirgor's business diversification strategy and its commitment to boosting the economy of Tierra del Fuego, expanding the tourism and hospitality offer and concurrently it align with Meliá Hotels International, plans and goal to encourage qualitative and sustainable tourism in prime destinations.

Meliá Hotels International, recognized the most sustainable company in Europe by Standard & Poor's Global, will bring in extensive management experience and valuable Gran Meliá brand to the project developed by Grupo Mirgor with an investment of over $50 million and set to open in 2028.

Upon completion the hotel will be the southernmost facility of the Spanish hotel group manages globally and it will feature 200 rooms, two restaurants, a bar, a lobby bar, an auditorium with a 800 - person capacity, indoor and outdoor pools, a top – tier spa, a fully equipped gym, a gazebo and a winter garden.

This initiative aims to bolster local tourism infrastructure and offerings,on corporate and cultural tourism, projected to generate about 200 new jobs and boosting the development of a local supplier network to meet the hotel's needs for goods and services.

Meliá Hotels International operates four hotels in Argentina, with the Grand Meliá Iguazú being awarded the best hotel in Argentina by the World Travel Awards for the third successive year.

The CEO of Grupo Mirgor, José Luis Alonso, underscored the projects' collaboration vision and highlighted the Spanish hotel chain's pivotal role while the Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International Gabriel Escarrer Jaume expressed enthusiasm for the strategic partnership with Grupo Mirgor and the potential of the luxury brands of the group in Argentina.

The Governor of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, Gustavo Melella emphasized the significance of private sector investment in the province and expressed his belief that such as hotel would be a boom for tourism.
