Argentina is actively working with reforms, campaigns, improving its tourism quality promoting sustainable practices and through various initiatives as the recent launch of SACT, the renewned Argentine Tourism Quality System which seeks to position the South American country as a tourist destination of excellence.
With a resolution published in the official Gazette, the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Sports of Argentina informed of the new bases and functions of the new SACT which is comprised of a set of tools specifically designed to promote quality in each of the tourism services offered by destinations throughout the country.
SACT represents a strategic proposal for articulation between bodies and organizations to optimize the quality of tourism services with the objective to develop the competitiveness of the country’s tourism organization through the application of quality standards to promote the preservation of social, economic, cultural, and environmental sustainability with the aim to place Argentina as a tourist destination of excellence.
Similar to a statute, the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Sports also highlighted the different basic criteria to which the system will aim, where innovation and sustainability are fundamental pillars, and the rules that the SACT will have to take always in consideration and they are :
• Continuos improvement - Systermatic process implemented by tourism organizations to constantly evaluate and optimize their services, processes and results.
• Innovation - Significant improvements or novel developments that tourism organisations incorporate to generate added value in their services and processes.
• Competitiveness - The ability of tourism organizations to develop and maintain comparative advantages that allow them to achieve, sustain and improve their positioning.
• Tourist accessibility - Characteristic of tourist services that seeks to ensure that their services, facilities and information are designed and managed to allow their use and enjoyment by all people, regardless of their physical, sensory or cognitive abilities.
• Sustainability - An approach that guides tourism organizations to develop their activities considering responsible management in economic, sociocultural and environmental aspects, contribuiting to the sustainable development of the tourist destination.
Finally it was highlighted that the SACT is implemented through the following work nuclei : promotion of training, tourism quality standards and tourism quality beehive.
