Praia, the capital city of Cape Verde, an island country and archipelagic state of West Africa in the central Atlantic Ocean consisting of ten volcanic islands, centre situated on the southern coast of Santiago Island, a gateway to Cape Verdean authenticity, highlighted by a vibrant culture, pristine beaches, exotic cuisine and the "morabeza" , the local word that reflects the hospitality and kindness of its people presented the project "Colorir a Praia".
The aim of the city with this initiative is to boost urban tourism, through the cultural, artistic and environmental enhancement of the Cape Verdean capital showcasing all its appeal and charm.
The project was presented at a strategic meeting promoted by the municipality of Praia, under the theme "Tourism in the City of Praia : Challenges and Potentialities", which brought together tourism professionals, entrepreneurs, tour guides and representatives of private institutions
The initiative aims to adopts new strategies for the sustainable development of the tourism sector proposing urban and cultural revitalization actions that involve everything from painting facades to creating tourist attractions with visual and cultural appeal, such as colourful stairs and artistic murals among others.
"Colorir a Praia" also aims to integrate local communities, especially young people, promoting empowerment and inclusion through cultural and sustainable tourism.
In addition, the project includes environmental education actions, using solid waste from the beaches to create works of art, combining sustainability and creativity.
According to the Cape Verdean media, which cite the promoters who reveal that this combination aims not only at the aesthetic and cultural improvement of the city, the project also focuses to the enhancement of responsible tourism, the respects the environment and stimulates local economic development.
The mayor of Praia, Francisco Carvalho, quoted by local press said that it's necessary to abandon the logic of temporary projects and invest in sustainable and rigorous initiatives that put the city in the spotlight in national tourism.
