Rome."Il Secolo D´oro dell´Arte Olandese" at Scuderie del Quirinale until the 20th January 2013 A fantastic exhibition dedicated to the prestigious Dutch painting School honouring the great Master Johannes Vemeer.

A city break in Rome is always a splendid idea to admire a city that for historical, artistic and monumental patrimony has few equal in the world and more if the capital of Italy offers a unique event, hosting at the Scuderie del Quirinale until the day January 20, 2013 a large and beautiful exhibition "Il Secolo d´oro dell´Arte Olandese"the Golden Century of Dutch Art dedicated to the magnificent school from Holland and in particular honouring the great Master Johannes Vermeer the genius from Delft.

If Rembrandt and Van Gogh are considered by many the greatest exponents of the magnificent Dutch school, Vermeer for many expert of art has been to their level, for some even better.Vermeer died very young at only 43 years of age, father of 11 children, the inimitable Master started to paint his masterpieces in Delft in his hometown in the South of the Netherlands, with the greatest order to maintain the family, calm and lovely person, Vermeer was an artist that we can define perfectionist. He attentively studied the lines, the perspectives and the colours. He was a painter that we can define almost an architect in painting.Meticulous during the study of his works, Vermeer was very fussy and demanding with himself. His main concept was seeking all the best he could generate, giving always a meaning to the scenes.

As most of the Dutch and Flemish Masters of the 17th century, Vermeer painted on boards of small size, artistically he had not the instinct genius and explosive enthusiasm of Rembrandt that created cycles of paintings with extreme ease,he had not even if it is difficult to compare due the different period the imagination and the universality of Van Gogh,we know that Van Gogh painted people, objects, plants and flowers, environments, local, a large series of portraits,Vermeer had not the the fear of being misunderstood as Rembrandt and more Van Gogh.

Vermeer painted during his short life about 50 paintings with an average of about only three paintings per year.So what had probably more Vermeer than Rembrandt and Van Gogh? The answer is not easy but for many expert consider a better technical study of the lines and of expressions. If we look at some paintings such as the famous 'Milkmaid' the 'Music Lessons" the "'Astronomer" the lines are almost perfect, the contrasts of colours the same in total harmony with the environment in which takes place the scene,a painting that some might define too much studied for the long time that Vermeer was devoted to create a work but, anyway really impressive.

Vermeer also spent a lot of time looking for the best for his works,a careful choice of materials, brushes and colours very expensive of high quality, if we think that some paintings by Rembrandt, masterpieces of the same period,(we are talking about the 17th century) have been restored, cleaned and in small part retouched, the works by Vermeer those famous 50 paintings are totally intact, have kept light and original colours just for the excellent quality of the materials he used for that they have not had needs of restoration..

The painting of Vermeer was focused mainly to scenes of daily life, he was a painter who loved the brightness and colour fleeing from the shadows,he painted scenes of intimate life of families and people within their homes, the Dutch Master painted people in action almost always doing something.Vermeer was a romantic painter,we might say, almost poetic,he loved to give light to the scene expressions to the faces,he enjoyed to transmit the world a real life in art in his unique style.

This splendid Roman exhibition all to enjoy is a magnificent award remembering a great artist, Johannes Vermeer one of the great masters of the 17th century.
