Portimão, famous tourist destination in the Portuguese region of the Algarve located in the district of Faro, famous for its lively marina, beautiful beaches and its historic center of great artistic value, has launched through EMARP the Municipal Water and Waste Company an intense campaign to raise awareness among beach users to deposit in special containers to safeguard biodiversity and marine ecosystems.
The campaign also launched a very significant motto "the best footprint leaves no marks", a clear message that aims to encourage people staying in local bathing areas to behave responsibly, avoiding throwing waste into the sea or on the beach, demonstrating respect for the territory and the ecosystem.
The Municipal Company of Portimão, which manages water and waste with this intense initiative, aims to draw attention to the global problem of marine litter by promoting the reduction of waste that is usually transported to the beach, with special mention to single-use plastic.
In addition, the aim is to raise awareness of the correct use of bins for separate waste collection, which is already available on the beaches, and on the collection of recyclable waste.
