Rome "the eternal city" is preparing for the Jubilee 2025 with serious projects aimed at improving the reception of visitors and with operations focused at making the city more accessible, sustainable and inclusive.
These are the introductory statements of the President of the Commission, Tourism, Fashion and International Relations of the Municipality of Rome in an interview with TTG.
The forecasts contemplate that with an investment of €1 billion and €1.8 billion of total resources, sums supplemented by an additional €500 million from the Pnrr funds, Rome is preparing to host an exceptional influx of about 50 million people belonging to all economic groups, with pilgrims who will concentrate in the Vatican area but also in other city areas to stay overnight and eat.
The forecasts see a mix of tourism with daily visits for those who live near the Italian capital, overnight stays ranging from 1 to 3 nights for Italian coming from other areas and European citizens and longer stays for those visitors coming from other continents, especially from Central and South America attracted by the Argentine nationality of Pope Francis.
There are many significant structural interventions for the Jubilee with a position and lasting impact on the city of Rome with highlights to the expansion of pedestrian paths, improvements in public lighting, increase in public toilets especially in areas such as St. Peter's, Termini Station and the Jubilee basilicas.
As far as the road sector is concerned, an update of the ATAC stops, the purchase of new trains for the metro lines A and C and the introduction of ecological buses.
