Japan is embarking on a fight against overtourism, although it is still too early to verify positive results, the Asian country is developing effective strategies to combat the overtourism that has been affecting it for some time now, a problem that many other destinations are experiencing.
The digital tourist newspaper preferente. com dedicated to reporting news from the world of tourism, hotels, travel agencies and airlines informed that Japan is applying plans to limit the presence of tourism by also importing solutions from other countries creating a sort of unique mix in the world.
The first step of this strategy is to charge the entrances, for example to enter the castle of Himeji one of the few manors of the feudal period of Japan located in the city of the same name in the Kansai region from now the visitors will pay for the entrance up to $ 30.
The second phase relates to the limitation of accommodation solutions, obviously it is not the hotels themselves that are affected as much as tourist rentals and this strategy has also been applied abroad for example in the Dutch capital Amsterdam.
The third strategic stage is the one that is most surprising, namely the obligation to book in advance visits to the major sites of interest, a decision that according to the calculations of the competent institutions of Japan should limit the incoming flows and obviously regulate the volume.
Although the epilogue of this battle is still to be narrated, one fact is certain, Japan has declared war on the phenomenon of Overtourism and if it were to really win it it could become a distinctive symbol and a model to follow for all destinations that suffer from the same problem.
