Capri | Evaluation of Quota Arrivals by Sea due to Overcrowding

 

Capri, idyllic Mediterranean island in Italy's Bay of Naples, famed for its upscale hotels and shopping. Its rugged landscapes and the emblematic Blue Grotto, a dark, mesmerizing cavern where the sea glows electric blue is seriously considering limiting arrivals by sea which are also recording significant peaks in the high season in September.

In an interview with Corriere.it, famous Italian daily newspaper published in Milan, the Mayor of Capri Paolo Falco declared that a practically intolerable and unsustainable limit has been reached and actions are needed to block landings on the island by adopting new rules with arrivals that must be at least halved.

The Municipal Council, before hypothesizing to set a limit of arrivals by ship as a deterrent, began to take note of arrivals and documenting the mathematical result of the conclusions with statistical data, shows that it has gone beyond the limits and it is not possible to sustain such an influx of such great identity.

The transport, logistics, ASL, municipal police and law enforcement services are giving their best with great efforts but all this is not enough in the face of this crowding.

The Mayor of Capri then denounced unfair practices by some shipping companies that transport tourists to Capri in the day with ultra-short visits at high costs with tourists who pay up to € 300 for these excursions for only two hours of visit.

All that for the Mayor is considered a tourist scam by making visitors to Capri who spend only 90 minutes on the island soil of 65 in queue for public transport and all this means perceiving a scam to the detriment of tourists.

For these reasons, the Mayor of Capri requests the revision of the timing of the berth plan. Nowadays there is an ordinance issued in 1999 when 200/300 people landed on the Campania island compared to 3000/4000 today, allowing nowadays the docking of a ship every 10 minutes.

Analyzing all that, the ordinance must be changed with an interval brought to 20 minutes as at least twice as many people arrive on the island as it would be possible to tolerate.
