The Government and the Chamber of Commerce of Jalisco, renowned Mexican State fringing the Pacific Ocean famous for its historic cities and towns, dramatic landscapes, tequila, mariachi music and the emblematic charreria, the Mexican rodeo both integral parts of Mexican heritage recognized by UNESCO has established a partnership with Ferromex, private rail consortium that operates the largest railway in Mexico with combine mileage of 12.100 kilometres with the aim to relaunch the famous Tequila Express train.
The primary objective of this initiative is to relaunch tourism in the Tequila region with a railway project that will connect Guadalajara, attractive, historic city dotted well known for its colonial squares and neoclassical landmarks as the Teatro Degollado and its superb Cathedral with twin gold spires to Tequila, town in Mexico's western state of Jalisco, known for its production of the famous spirit with the same name with a history that has made this center and the surrounding area a UNESCO heritage site and being named " Pueblo Magico".
The public-private investment for the relaunch of the Tequila Express Train is quantified in just over 200 million pesos equivalent to about € 9.3 million, of which 81 million pesos equal to € 3.8 million were financed by the Government of Jalisco through the Ministry of Tourism of Jalisco and the Tourism funds of the municipalities of the interior and the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara with the collaboration of Grupo Mexico Transportes which contributed with 120 million pesos for cars, the restructuring of the railway infrastructure and stations.
The historic Tequila Express train has eight carriages and the traveller can choose two travel options, one operated by Grupo Mexico Transportes from Friday to Sunday with various experiences held in Tequila while the second on Saturdays is operated by the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce with a traditional cultural and gastronomic offer.
The Governor of Jalisco Enrique Alfaro through the local media commented that the proposal to relaunch the Tequila Express train will be consolidated over time and can offer trips every day and in the future so that Guadalajara and Tequila leave travelers with unique and memorable experiences.
Jalisco Secretary of Tourism Vanessa Pérez Lamas said that Tequila Express will showcase the attractive territory and rich heritage that Guadalajara and Tequila offer as attractive tourist destinations.
The Tequila Express Train allows the travellers to show through a life experience two aspects that are very important for Mexicaness itself and for the promotion of Jalisco, tequila and the agave landscape.
