Macau – China | International Airport Plans to connect with Europe and the United States of America

Macau International Airport situated in the special administrative region of People's Republic of China on the south coast of the nation, across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong, said it is actively seeking an expansion of international operating routes to and from Macau, including plans to connect with European and U.S. airports.

Providing an update following the famous Golden Week holiday period which commemorates the founding of the People's Republic of China on 1st October approximately 144.000 passengers travelled through Macau International Airport with 1.202 aircraft movements and the operator of MIA, Macau International Airport stated that international route operations are expanding steadily.

A further confirmation about that is the service to Laos, Southeast Asian country at the heart of the Indochinese Peninsula that will begin soon.

In the meantime, the Airport Operator has communicated that it is working assiduously and actively with airlines to expand routes from Macau and transit to the European continent, the United States of America and other international destinations by providing a single ticketing service for baggage checks.

In order to cooperate with the Tourism Development Directorate of the Macau SAR Government, MIA continues to expand the Southeast and Northeast Asian aviation market with the aim of providing passengers with more travel options and consequently attracting more international tourists who wish to travel to Macau.

Macau International Airport handled approximately 20.000 passengers and 171 aircraft movements daily during Golden Week from 01st to 07th October 2024 with an increase of 27% and 24% respectively compared to the same period last year.

Overall passenger volume and aircraft movements have recovered to approximately 82% and 77% of 2019 levels respectively.
