Colombia | Remarkable Growth in Air Connectivity at National and International Level

Colombia, the only country in South America bathed by the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, a Latin American destination of great charm for its culture, biodiversity with unique landscapes ranging from the Andes Peaks to tropical beaches, vast plains and rainforests, considers air connectivity one of the most important aspects for the country's tourism development.

This is how other additional services in the sector evolve and make it possible for travellers to get to known , the beauty, the diversity of attractions and cultures of the countries and in the case of Colombia.

Traffic in the country's airports so far this year shows great progress with notable achievements and an exponential growth.

Paula Cortés Calle, Executive Chairman of ANATO, the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies, a non-profit, professional association that represents, defends and promotes the general interests of tourism and travel agencies in the country said that based on the positive trend and path that Colombian air transport has revealed at international operations throughout 2024, we have drawn up some estimates for its closing.

By the end of 2024, the Association projects that around 23 million passengers will be transported on international flights and 33 million on national flights, which would represent a growth of 17% and 11% respectively compared to 2023. In fact taking into account all traffic a 13% increment would be achieved with 56 million passengers.

It is worth noting that, between January and September 2024, the destinations to which passenger movement on national flights has increased have been Pereira with 33%, Armenia, 25% and Santa Marta, 24%, while in the case of international flights, the airports with the greatest growth have been Cartagena de Indias with 23%, Rionegro, 22% and the capital of the country Bogotá with 16%.

Another aspect to highlight is the increase in passenger traffic to the airports of Leticia and Nuqui, with 13% and 64% respectively and all that reflects the progress that tourist destinations have been making as places of great interest for national and international visitors.

Therefore it is essential to continue working on improving airport infrastructure and strengthening air routes and frequencies so that more travellers have the opportunity to see more and new places.
