Macau – China | Tourism in Great Growth with nearly 26 Million Visitors in 2024

 

Macau, one of the special administrative regions of China together with Hong Kong located on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Hong Kong to the east and facing the South China to the south, former Portuguese territory, often referred as the "Las Vegas of the East" to be a top destination for gambling tourism with its numerous, giant casinos on the Cotai Strip ,its historic centre inserted in UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005 for the unique blend of Chinese and Portuguese architectuure  and also one of the regions in Asia with the highest human development index according to states recorded by the authorities is approaching 26 million visitors in 2024.

Since January, the number of registered visitors to Macau is now close to 26 million of visitors, a data indicating a great growth of 30.1% compared to the same period last year.

Last September, the special administrative region of the Republic of people of China received more than 2.5 million visitors, a figure that notes an increase of 9.9% compared to the same month in 2023 according to data published by DSEC, the Macau Statistic and Census Bureau Organization which provides a statistical database users can retrieve historical data for specific indicators as well as a database of external merchandise and trade statistics.

Specific data recorded show that, of the total number of visitors received by the area in September, 1.308.147 were excursionists, to which 1.219.864 tourists were added, showing increases of 15.6% and 4.3% respectively.

The majority of visitors registered in the first nine months of the year came from within China for a total of 18.217.413 visitors which represents a solid increase of 36% in annual terms.
