Valladolid, city situated in the eastern region of Yucatán Peninsula, well known for its splendid colonial buildings dating back to the 16th century, a centre which became part of the “Pueblo Magicos” magic towns in 2012 by a promotional initiative the federal Secretariat of Tourism leads for its important historical, and cultural heritage with the slogan "Valladolid Historia Viva" Valladolid Living History as new brand during the three years of the current administration in occasion of events and the activities with a tourist background will have a trilingual promotion in Spanish, Mayan and English.
The Director of Economic Development of the Municipality Noé Rivero Sánchez explained that the city is included in the state government's plan as "Renacimiento Maya" Maya Renaissance and in this case was necessary to find a way to promote the site and the slogan "Valladolid Historia Viva" was invented.
Three languages will be used for the promotion of the events and promotional activities, Spanish as the official language of Mexico, Maya, being inhabited by a large percentage of Mayan population, the Yucatec language is very widespread in the city and in the surrounding areas and English as international language.
Since 2012 Valladolid is part of the "Pueblos Magicos" the magic towns, a title nad recognition born by an initiative led by Mexico's Secretariat of Tourism with support from other federal agencies, to promote a series of towns around the country that offer visitors "cultural, richmess, historical relevance, cuisine, art crafts and great hospitality" and Valladolid boasts all that.
Valladolid has very friendly people, an important historic heritage, it is a centre founded in 1543, it boasts some relevant colonial buildings as the splendid Convent of San Bernardino de Siena built in 1552 developed in Franciscan style with its architecture representing a medieval fortress type and the Cathedral de San Servacio dated 1543 showing a typical Spanish Baroque profile.
This centre is also famous for its rich gastronomy, and artesany, a local symbol is the famed Cenote Zaci, a landscaped freshwater cenote or underground sinkhole in which visitors can explore and swim and it is a very strategic gateway for visiting nearby Maya ruins as the iconic Ek' Balam, Chichén Itzá which was one of the largest Maya cities as well as the emblematic Cenote Ik Kil part of the stunning Ik Kil Archeological Park and with all that and more Valladolid with its “historia viva”and all its attractiveness opens its doors giving a warm welcome to all visitors.
