Colombia | International Tourism Grows with an Increase of 9.4%

 

Colombia, South American country with great charm, highlighted by a rich cultural and historic heritage, a stunning biodiversity, vibrant cities, dramatic and varied landscapes according to report released by Procolombia, government agency of the executive branch of Colombia in charge of promoting Colombian exports, international tourism and foreign investsments to the country registered an increase of 9.4% from january to october with the arrival of 5.325.486 international visitors.

The main boost to this relevant growth came from tourist coming from abroad accounted for 65.4% of the total arrivals to Colombia, with a figure of 3.483.689 international visitors, which means an increase of 11.1% compared to the same period last year while Colombians residing abroad recorded 1.429.410 arrivals with a growth of 10.2% and a share of 26.8%.

Another data was reported concerning cruise passengers and travellers from Venezuela, for vacation purposes with these segments which contributed 4.3% and 3.4% of total arrivals, respectively.

A further figure released is linked to the first half of 2024, the source said that 80.3% pf the spending made by international visitors in Colombia was concentrated in 10 countries with the United States of America, Mexico and Ecuador leading the ranking.

This expense, processed through credit cards, generated revenues of more than $1.0 billion with an average expenditure of $104.0 per card.

The United States of America and Spain are the two leading countries among the issuing markets, concentrating more than 37% of reservations to Colombia.

The most requested Colombian destinations for international travellers according the data provided by Procolombia are the capital of the country Bogotá, Medellin and Cartagena de Indias.

According to the Director of Promocolombia Carmen Caballero, these results consolidate the country as a leading destination in the region, not only for its cultural and natural wealth but also for the effectiveness of an international tourism promotion strategy agency planned and designed to highlight the diversity and beauty of the country.
