Panama, country in Latin America at the southern end of Central America, bordering South America famous for its iconic Canal linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to create an essential shipping rote, its biodiversity and a rich cultural heritage has managed to maintain its position as the best and leading retirement destination by 2025 according to the Global Retirement Index of International Living and InterNations,well known publication with more than 40 years in search the best destinations to retire.
The Central American country in 2023 occupied the third position in this special index and in the current year regained the 1st position.
It should be noted that the countries are accurelately chosen by nomination of International Living editors that every year publishes a list of the top retirement places around the world, who carry out a qualitative evaluation based on data collected in the various destinations, according to criteria such as cost of living, medical care, visa, access to housing and climate among others.
In this evaluation Panama also stands out in other key aspects such as the proximity to the United States of America, the use of U.S$, political stability, affordable health care and attractive tax benefits for international retirees.
The publication of International Living states that many of the expats who live in Panama cite the geographical diversity and location of the country, with the proximity to North America being an important factor choosing this Central American country as their retirement destination.
Approximately Panama has the size of the U.S. state North Carolina, the residents can find mountains and beaches within easy reach, no matter where people is in the country, it's possible to wake up in the Caribbean and in a short time to enjoy a lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean, they are a couple of hours away in the thinner section of the isthmus and for that and more in Panama there is something for everyone.
Another interesting aspect is linked to a global survey indicated that Panama leads the rankings in financial satisfaction among international retirees and that up to 74% od respondents said they were satisfied with their sconomic situation, in contrast to a global average of 54% and in addition 88% said that their income is sufficient or more than enough to enjoy a comfortable life, compared to 70% worldwide.
A further highlight is undoubtedly housing affordability representing a key point, with the 62% of participants who rated this aspect positively compared to the global average of 64% and Panama is positioned as the most accessible country to find quality accommodation options.
Along with Panama countries such as Costa Rica, France Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and Thailand complete the list of best destinations to retire in 2025.
