Peru | Five Sites Recognized as Winners of the Green Destinations Story Awards 2024

 

Peru, country in western South America, splendid megadiverse land, with habitats ranging from the arid plains of the Pacific cost to the peaks of the imposing Andes mountains stretching north to southeast and the tropical forests of the Amazon Basin to east boasting a very rich historic and cultural heritage linked to the ancient Inca civilization was protagonist in a ceremony held in Chile where the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism received the diplomas that recognize five sites of Peru as winners of the Green Destinations Story Awards 2024.

The recognitition highlights tourist destinations that inspire the world through their stories of good sustainability practices and the winners are the following :

·       Alpahuayo Mishana National Reserve – Department of Loreto

·       Kuélap – Department of Amazonas

·       National Reserve System of Islands, Islets and Guano Points, Cavinzas Islands and Palomimo Islets – Department of Callao

·       Los Órganos – Department of Piura

·       Tingo Maria National Park – Department of Huánuco

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru Desilú León has expressed her satisfaction with these awards that put the Andean country in the eyes of the world reflecting the hard work and dedication of the government, regional and local authorities, as well as communities to promote sustainable and responsible tourism.

To enter the list the representatives of each winning destination announces sustainable stories and practices that, due ro their significance, can be replicated globally.

In the case of Peru, Mincetur, through the Vice Ministry of Tourism provided technical support to the destinations.

In addition there was also the articulated and collaborative work of Sernap, the Regional Government of Amazonas, the District Municipality of Los Órganos in the Piura Region and the private sector and the communities.
