Brazil | Tax Free Program Refunding on Expenses on Specific Goods and Services of International Tourists Launch

Brazil, the largest country in South America, very demanded tourist destination, bounded by the Atlantic Ocean with a coastline of over 7.400 kilometres highlighted by stunning beaches, a rich biodiversity, encompassing a wide range of tropical and subtropical landscapes as well as wetlands, savannas, plateaus, low mountains and contains most of the Amazon basin, including the world's largest river system and most extensive virgin tropical forest launched a tax free programme refunding on expenses on specific goods and services of international tourists.

With this initiative the Latin American country is going to return to international visitors the tax money on the products they buy during their stays, as an incentive for them to return, a mesure included in the new tax reform enacted on 16th January 2025 by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and will begin to be instrumentalized with the public and private sectors throughout the current year.

The President of Embratur, the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of International Tourism Marcelo Freixo said that the tax free for international tourists is already a measure adopted by the main countries of the world and adopting this policy here makes the country more competitive in attracting tourists coming from abroad and it will make them consume more and more what Brazil produces such as products from industry,  artesany and handicrafts.

With this program it is considered that international tourists will be able to save up to 22% of total expenses with the refund of taxes at the end of their vacation, according to market studied of the tourism sector and all that will be an additional incentive for all those who are wishing or planning to visit Brazil.
