CATA Central American Tourism Promotion Agency | Alliance with Taiwan to Strengthen Sustainable Tourism in the Region

CATA, Central American Tourism Promotion Agency that promotes multi - destination tourism internationally in collaboration with SITCA, the Secretariat for Central American Tourist Integration and the Regional Center for the Promotion of MSMEs, CENPROMYPE, reaffirmed their commitment to regional development and establishing an alliance with the Republic of China Taiwan to strengthen sustainable tourism in the region.

 The activity was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Carlos Ramiro Martinez, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belize, Amalia Mai, the Ambassador of Taiwan accredited in Guatemala, Viva Chang, the Executive Director of the General Secretariat of SICA, Ingrid Figueroa with also the participation of the Secretary General of CATA, Boris Iraheta, the Director of CENPROMYPE, David Cabrera, the Executive Secretary of SITCA, Miranda Ponce, with also the presence of representatives of regional institutions, technical work teams of the national counterpart instutions of Belize and Guatemala.

This strategic alliance by delivering the second disbursement of the “Intersectoral Program to support of MSMEs and Sustainable Tourism” supported by the Republic of China, Taiwan a project, with a duration of two years, which has its main objective to enhance the development of the industry, promoting practices that not only strengthen in productive capacity, but also with the to promote the conservation ,of the natural and cultural environment.

This program has generated and is generating significant results, such as the development of virtual platforms for MSMEs, the creation of value chains that promote exports, the holding of the Regional MSME Forum, the implementation of the Regional Policy for Modernization and Transformation for MSMEs / PRMIPYME and the strengthening of Tourism Quality and SICCS, Sustainability Seal. 

 In addition innovative products have been designed with a document on social tourism, rural women’s networks in the tourism sector have been strengthened and the Smart Tourism Destinations model has been implemented.

CATA, for its part, continues to contribute to the positioning of Central America, as an attractive, renovated tourist multi - destination with high quality standards in international markets.

 All that is achieved through capacity building, communication, promotion and marketing actions to maximize the attractiveness of the region and encourage intra – regional tourism.

Likewise, progress is being made in the development of regional tourism and MSME observatories, and in the establishment of strategic alliances with key actors in the ecosystem and the new stage of collaboration strengthens ties between Taiwan and Central American countries, fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

 With a focus on sustainability and equitable growth, this partnership represents an opportunity to foster the diversification of tourist destinations, promote the inclusion of local communities, and preserving the natural and cultural heritage in the Latin American isthmus.
