Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority and the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum in Rome Established a Historic Twinning to Boost Cultural Tourism

PDTRA, Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority and the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum in Rome signed an agreement established a historic twinning to boost Cultural Tourism.

This agreement was signed by PDTRA Petra Chairman, Fares Breizat an Colosseum Archaeological Park Director General Alfonsina Russo, establishes a framework for cultural and tourism cooperation between the two iconic sites, both recognized as New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.

This twinning focuses to enhance cultural and tourism promotion, cooperation including joint workshops on archaeological preservation, cultural events and information exchange and it also includes plans for reciprocal visitor programs and the exchange of media materials.Both parties emphasized the agreement as a symbol of international collaboration, aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of Petra and the Colosseum as global tourist destinations.

Petra - Historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan, famous for its rock - cut architecture and water conduit systems dating to around 300 B.C., former capital of the Nabetean Kingdom, containing tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, earning its nickname, "the Rose City".

This Nabataean caravan - city, situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, was an important crossroads between Arabia, Egypt and Syria - Phoenicia Surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges, Petra is one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, where ancient Eastern traditions blend with Hellenistic architecture 

The Flavian Amphitheatre -  More commonly known as the Colosseum, iconic elliptical largest amphitheatre in the world, stands in the archaeological heart of of Rome just east of the Roman Forum and welcome large numbers od visitors daily, attracted by the fascination of its history and its complex architecture.

The building became known as the Colosseum because of a colossal statue that stood nearby, was built in the 1st century CE at the behest of the emperors of the Flavan dynasty, the second imperial dynasty of the Roman Empire, succeeding the Julio - Claudians, included the reigns of Vespasian, Titus and Domitian. Until the end of the ancient period, it was used to present spectacle of popular appeal among them the gladiatorial games.

Petra has previously signed twinning agreements with sites in Spain and Italy and intends to pursue further agreements with other New Seven Wonders of the World.

PDTRA Petra Chairman, Fares Breizat highlighted that the agreement aligns with PDTRA's efforts to develop Petra's tourism and cultural sectors, noting the potential for increased visibility through promotional materials at the Colosseum, which attracts 14 million annual visitors.

The Director General of Colosseum Archaeological Park, Alfonsina Russo emphasized the Colosseum's commitment to international cultural cooperation and recognized Petra as a significant archaeological site.
