Puerto Rico, beautiful island located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea between the Dominican Republic and the U.S. Virgin Islands, is experiencing a great moment in the MICE sector, with a revenue of more than $192.3 million in fiscal year 2024, a very significant figure that means an increase of 8% compared to the previous year.
This relevant data also means a very significant increase of 249% compared to 2019 corresponding to the last pre-pandemic year when the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions sector earned $55.1 million.
Puerto Rico's remarkable efforts in the MICE sector are also noticeably evident in the 239.075 overnight bookings, which translates into an increase of 22% compared to 2023 and 87% compared to the pre-pandemic period.
This impressive performance makes 2024 the most successful fiscal year for this tourism segment in over a decade.
Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico declared that when you combine a destination very diversified as Puerto Rico that boasts world-class facilities alongside excellent, cultural products, successful marketing and remarkable efforts in terms of strategic sales it’s possible to achieve these notable results that mark a major step forward for the MICE industry of the country.
Discover Puerto Rico's Sales Director, Ed Carey, commented that all of these new milestones in economic impact and bookings in the MICE and sports market demonstrate Puerto Rico's great potential in the events and conventions segment and the key is to work together effectively to better strengthen the country's appeal for group and business travel.
