Bahamas | Growth, Investments and Strategic Plans in the Tourism Sector

 

The Bahamas, island country on the northwestern edge of the West Indies within the Lucayan Archipelago of the Atlantic Ocean consisting of an idyllic coral archipelago of nearly 700 islands and cays, only about 30 of which aere inhabited highlighted by stunning white sand beaches and strikingly clear, azure waters is experiencing a period of growth, investments with the development of strategic plans in the tourism sector.

The General Manager of the Bahamas Tourist Office Maria Grazia Marino highlighted these performances by shedding light on a constantly developing flight plan and an increase in rooms in upscale hotels winith a 2024 that is returning to satisfactory numbers.

Flights from the United States of America are in continuous, progressive increase and currently thanks to the new connection from Los Angeles,  very important Californian hub, the Bahamas can be reached from over 12 cities to these connections are then added frequencies from Canada, direct flights from Europe with a daily with the British Airways company and the biweekly operated by Virgin Atlantic,well known airline with its head office beased in Crawley - West Sussex -England.

Through August, the Bahamas attracted 7.7 million global visitors, a great achievement considering a 16% increase compared to the same period of 2023.

About a third of the total visitors are cruise passengers who have called at the Bahamas, with the main cruise lines as protagonists who have significantly equipped themselves to make passengers discover the attractiveness and different aspects of the Bahamian archipelago.

Notable signals are coming from the famous Carnival Cruise Line, an international company headquartered in Doral - Florida - U.S. subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc will introduce the Pearl Cove Beach Club, an exclusive retreat offering a premium experience for guests 18 and older at Celebration Key while Royal Caribbean, an important cruise brand line founded in 1968 and headquartered in Miami - Florida - U.S.  the largest cruise line by revenue and second largest by passengers counts will respond in 2025 with the proposal in Nassau with the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island a superb 17-acre destination experience coming to the western end of Paradise Island.

Not to be forgotten is MSC Cruises renowned Swiss – Italian global cruise line based in Geneva which will pivot on Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve on an artificial island developed in the 1960s located 32 kilometres south of Bimini proper, and one of the Bahamas isands closest to the Florida coast.

To support the progressive growth in the tourism sector, the Bahamas is investing both in infrastructure and in hospitality facilities.

A $55 million project under development involves the redevelopment and expansion of the port of Eleuthera, long, thin island of the archipelago well known for its stunning pink sand beaches among them stands out the French Leave Beach and the harbour of Bimini in the westernmost district of the Bahamas comprising a chain of islands situated about 80 kilometres due east of Miami.

Among the hotel novelties, Baha Mar, with an investment of $350 million, will launch a new brand in 2026, then opening the first structure with a capacity of 350 rooms in 2029 in the Bahamas.

The Bahamas Archipelago is also synonymous with eco-sustainability and the General Manager of the Bahamas Tourist Office mentions the project The Farm in Eulethera which will offer 12 cottages built around a farm powered by solar energy and where zero-kilometer food will be produced.

Also noteworthy is the Potlach Club a stunning, reborn mid-century retreat of Eleuthera where privacy and seclusion are the very essence of the place which comprises 11 suites, white-washed cottages and villas.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary called People to People which allows you to bring the local culture closer to the outside world to live an authentic and absolutely engaging experience.

The goal of the General Manager of the Bahamas Tourist Office with all these pluses and captivating news is to increase the number of incoming Italian tourists to the Bahamas by a further 30% in 2025.

A relevant figure concerns the increase in 2024, which from January to June exceeded tourist flows by 25% compared to the same period of the previous year, expecting a new increment favored by the tourism promotion activity that is being defined on the Italian market.

Linked to all that, a roadshow already planned will start on 11th November will touch the cities of Florence, Parma and Padua with also an event to be held in Naples in collaboration with MSC Cruises.
