Cartagena, also known as since the colonial period as Cartagena de Indias, one of the shining pearls of Colombia, city and major port on the northern coast of the South American country in the Caribbean Sea, highlighted by its tropical climate. the splendour of its walled town founded in the 16th century characterized by picturesque colloblestone streets,suggestive squares surrounded by beautiful, colourful colonial buildings is ready to host the 122nd edition of the Executive Council of the Nations for Tourism to be held from 13th to 15th November 2024.
The event, according to an authorized source, will be held at the Convention Center of Cartagena situated in the north of the city.
According to a note issued by Mincit,the Ministry of Commerce and Tourism of Colombia representatives of relevant ministerial department and senior authorities from,35 countries will participate in this important meeting, in addution to the presence of the Secretary General of UN Tourism, Zurab Pololikashvili.
The Head of Mincit, Luis Carlos Reyes, said that on this occasion the South American country will focus on issues such as the opportunities offered by the leisure industry in community areas, as well as other initiatives of environmentally responsible practices, adding that it is an opportunity for Colombia to continue to position itself as a leader for its public policies identified on sustainable exercise.
The Head of the Ministry of Commerce and Tourism of Colombia stressed that during the event a theme will concern the mechanisms that are put in place so that the benefits generated by the tourism sector reach in the most direct way possible the communities that for so long have been underestimated in their nation and that are now part of the decision-making process.
According to the source, the Executive Council of the Nations for Tourism will also serve to reaffirm Colombia leadership as a reference destination for the recovery and development of tourism in the Americas, based on the role the country has assumed as a member of the United Nations Council for the period between 2023 and 2027.
This occasion is also an opportunity to reveal the commitment to community-based nature tourism that prioritizes regions such as the Pacific, La Guajira and other historically excluded territories.
The event will also be used to make visible the sector's commitment to the transition to a decarbonized economy and the protection of nature, strengthening environmental justice, climate change mitigation and the sustainable development of this activity.
