Bolivia | Mountaineering Tourism Launch to Position the Country as an International Destination

 

Bolivia, landlocked country located in central South America, characterized by a very varied terrain spanning the Atacama Desert, Andes Mountains and Amazon Basin rainforest as part of a planned, national strategy to position itself as a competitive, inclusive and sustainable tourist destination was protagonist of a presentation and discussion meeting  to launch the "Turismo de Altura"the mountaineering tourism, a set of outdoor activities that involves ascending mountains,climbing, alpinism and much more has been held.

The meeting organized by Fundación Ciudad Humana, IES, the Innovation in Social Entrepreneurship, Foundation, the Tourism Board and the SDSN, Network of Solutions for Sustainable Development of Bolivia "Turismo de Altura" aimed to bring together experts, professionals from the sector, actors from the private sector, and representatives of public institutions to discuss and design comprehensive solutions that promote the country's tourism development.

Fundación Ciudad Humana, the Human City Foundation emphasizes that within the framework of the Bicentennial of Bolivia 2025, the event is a very strategic proposal that aims to create a state policy of tourism promotion in a participatory way.

In addition, general strategic plans and key regulations, that will make it possible to turn the country into a preferred tourist destination worldwide linked to mountaineering tourism in the Andes.

All in all, it is entended to integrate the public, academic and private sectors promoting joint work that promotes the development of tourism at national level.

Thus the initiative detailing its goals, scope and phases of the program has been presented and furthermore technical discussions were held on the benefits of tourism in Bolivia, the challenges it faces and possible solutions to overcome current barriers.

Likewise the work plan for 2025 has been detailed, including the holding of national forums, participatory workshops and meetings with authorities to build a joint vision of tourism in Bolivia.

The launch of the "Turismo de Altura" initiative consists in the first step in a process that includes participatory workshops throughout the country, a national forum and the formulation of a national policy proposal that will be presented on the eve of Bolivia's Bicentennial.

Fundación Ciudad Humana highlights that the initiative places a special emphasis on the development of local communities empowering them to be protagonists of the economic, social and cultural benefits of tourism.
