Spain | Seven Centres Join the Network of the Most Beautiful Spanish Villages

Ainsa - Sobrarbe, Spanish municipality located in the province of Huesca in the autonomous community of Aragon, an important Pyreanean centre between the 11th and 15th centuries boasting a stunning medieval core revolving around the beautiful square Plaza Mayor hosted the XII National Assembly of the Association of the Most beautiful Villages in Spain which celebrated the incorporation in the network of seven new centres.

This event held for the first time in the community of Aragon brought together municipal representatives of the member towns of the network and during the assembly, the Association quality commission has carefully evaluated the candidates presented by the aspiring villages, assessing aspects such as the conservation of their cultural heritage, their natural environment, their uniqueness and the commitment to sustainable tourism.

After a rigorous evaluation process, the quality commission decided in favour of the incorporation of rhe new municipalities to the network, which will become part of this prestigious network of villages that stand out for their beauty, history and rich heritage.

The most beautiful new villages joining the network are :

·       Llerena – Province of Badajoz – Extremadura

·       Jerez de Los Caballeros – Province of Badajoz – Extremadura

·       La Fresneda – Province of Teruel – Aragon

·       Linares de Mora – Province of Teruel – Aragon

·       Berlanga del Duero – Province of Soria – Castilla y León

·       Poza de la Sal – Province of Burgos - Castilla y León

These six villages have successfully passed the Association's rigorous audits, and their incorporation reinforces the network's commitment to heritage conservation and the promotion of responsible tourism in unique destinations in Spain.

The seventh village that will part of the association is :

·       Letur – Province of Albacete – Castilla - Mancha

This municipality has been severely damaged by the last DANA and the General Assembly decided to include Letur in the network and the President of the Association personally offered the Mayor of Letur the opportunity to be part of the exclusive group of the most beautiful villages of Spain.

The priority objective of this inclusion is to recover the essence of Letur as one of the most emblematic destinations in the Castilla – La Mancha community as well as to guarantee the restoration of its cultural and natural heritage over the coming year.
